I still enjoy my SW 12" from Hasbro (a selection, of course, some are crap, some are good). I'd rather pay $20 for the Hasbro 12" Gamorrean Guard than like $175 for the Sideshow.

I don't even see that stuff at shows anymore, I've trained my brain to see it as a big black spot. No offense to those that love it but it only reminds me of the "investment craze".

During it's hey day, I remember walking into a Zeller's (RIP) and seeing them open up a box of 12" Tusken Raider dolls. I approached them but was shut out by a father and son who grabbed them all. The son was screeching "DAD WE'RE GOING TO BE RICH!!!!!!" as they proceeded to Lay-A-Way.

I was toy dealer at the time and treated those kind of toys like doughnuts, if they became stale, they were trash. If I bought a $20 figure, I'd ask $30 and could be easily talked down to $25. By noon, you could buy it for my cost or else I'd just keep it in my collection. Another dealer once said to me "You never carry much inventory" and I said "That's the point". I still see him at shows with his muscle vaders and lukes....

During the very beginning of the craze I was sucked in until the variations turned me off - about when the cards went from red to green.

I did make a few decent deals trading rare early variations for older non Star Wars stuff but in the end I was way behind like everyone else.

It's one thing that brings all of us "collectors" together -- we all got duped by our own greed - with a little help from Lucasfilms

Similar story for me, I started realizing that the line would never, ever end and all the money I was putting into could be used to buy the vintage toys I really wanted.

Also, the 12" figures really turned me off, Hasbro shouldn't have recycled that GI Joe body. Peter Cushing with big pipes and meat hook hands just really turned me off....

I can't say much, as I have totes full of 90s Batman toys that are equally value-less. I didn't really buy them to sell, but the idea of having them carded was a wrong-headed "insurance" policy to my feeble young mind.

I loved the hunt back then but never really got into the "investment" mindset. It was a fun time for toy collecting though.

I've never bought these as an investment. But figures like the Cantina Band, the bounty hunters, I still like them enough to keep on my shelves. I have maybe 10 of the 12" Hasbros, and I still love my Han on Taun Taun and the Dewback. As a matter of fact, my buddy from Vegas dragged that Dewback to Belgium when he came to visit.
"Hey, Scott, can you bring this figure?"
"Yeah, sure, no sweat!"

He was sweating when arriving at Brussels airport, though...

i'm glad i got rid of all mine. it was getting way out of control with all the different store exclusives. kb, toys r us, target, walmart, fao schwarz, geez............the only thing i kept is garindan. although i still think the 12 inch scale dewback was the coolest deluxe figure!

This picture reminds me of this one shameful corner of my Man Cave. I really don't know what to do with them anymore. The love is gone, and yet, it seems wrong to sell them for pennies.

you really can't give them away. I tried selling all the cinema scene 3 packs I have and was lucky to get a dollar a piece on ebay, minus the ebay fee, it's just not worth it. I have a pile of them I think I am giving to toys for tots this year. at least some kid can tear in and have fun actually playing with them
