Did the Ghostbusters theme rip off Ming's theme ?

Back in the day the Ghostbusters theme song was accused of ripping off Huey Lewis, I want a New Drug.

Was wondering if the beginning ripped off Ming's theme as well ?

I dunno. GB sounds like a riff on old haunted house spooky music. Ray Parker did lose the case to Huey Lewis with a big undisclosed settlement.

Both tunes came out within a few years of each other. Maybe everyone wanted to forget Flash Gordon so much they didn't make a comparison.

You think that sounds similar, try the opening to Dolly Parton's "9 to 5". It came out around the same time as "Flash Gordon". I figure it was coincidental.

The ONLY reason Huey cashed in on that deal was because of the simple fact that the producers had asked him to do the theme first... and he declined.

Parker's is similar, but if it wasn't for THAT aforementioned detail, Huey would've had next to no case.

WITH that detail documented (proving a similarity wasn't a mere coincidence)... it was similar ENOUGH that what happened with the case, happened.

Personally, I think it was a waste of court stuff, and Huey should've just let them have their hit to themselves... but I guess if ya have a chance to get paid... ya gotta take it... I guess.
