    Dang, blasted bad memory....

I was sitting here with my almost 5 year old(birthday next week by the way) enjoying a Phineas and Ferb episode(quality program!). At the end Dr. Doofenshmirtz(the bad guy) was in a boat and was swallowed by a large whale.

I'm sitting there watching and had a memory fly by of a movie, or tv program(can't remember) that had a very large mechanical whale that would open up it's upper mouth and swallow a ship and then close back up. It would open up the top half, but the lower portion had the same water level in it so the ship would float right into it.

It really feels like a James Bond movie, but I may be mistaking that for You Only Live Twice when the space capsule opens up and captures the other one.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

"The Spy Who Loved Me" also had a similar concept, except in that one it was a giant tanker ship that opened up its front "jaws" and swallowed submarines.

Thanks! That would explain why I was thinking James Bond. But it's not exactly what I'm picturing with the whale memory floating around, which may not even be accurate...

Was it live action or a cartoon? If a cartoon, it could be anything, but maybe a Secret Squirrel or Jonny Quest?
          It's all good!

There WAS a Young Samson cartoon:

            ....and a Moby Dick one:

            Deadly, killer robowhale:

Don't know if any of these help.

Sadly I can't remember if it's a cartoon or live action, I'm starting to think it was a cartoon.

Thanks for the links and thoughts!

It's definitely not a "real" whale, was a robotic, or submarine type of thing. I really thought the Gatchaman would be it, but it's not. I watched a ton of Battle of the Planets when I was younger.

The whale in this Bullwinkle serial was a mechanical one.

I wonder if you aren't thinking of the "Terror Fish" from 'Stingray'?

These are the opening credits in which the "sub" appears a couple of times nearer the end:

Ok... I finally found what this memory was... Only took me 11 years to finally figure it out. My then 5 year old is now 16 years old by the way, lol..

It wasn't a movie or tv show. It's from a comic. I was looking at some of my old comics and found this one and it struck me even before opening it, that this was it!

Disney comic, Moby Duck of all things. There's additional panels with this mechanical whale swallowing boats etc... But you can see what I was remembering...

At least you remembered about this thread you started! I can't remember any threads I started eleven years ago...

I think I brought it up again in another thread a few years ago, but couldn't find that thread, I think it was part of a larger discussion. Luckily the search function on the MM works better than my rusty search in my brain lol and it found this one.
