Space:1999/The Six Million Dollar Man trivia question.

Okay guys and gals. I know a little about Six and 1999 and I know that in both shows, an off the shelf model kit was used for different reasons in both shows. Does anyone know the model kit I am talking about?

I don't remember seeing it in Six but I do remember it in Dr Russel's office

Would that be the Invisble, (yet visible) Man?

        You bet.

In the Six Million Dollar Man, they took a Visible Man model, painted it white, stuck graph paper on it, took pictures of it and used the high contrast negative to make bionic schematic animation that premiered in the season 2 opening credits.

And of course The Visible Man (and I think the Visible Woman) was in Dr. Russell's office in Space:1999

They still make the model today

This would truly make a really cool custom.

Ever since I got the DVD's I was looking at the opening sequence, pretty sure it was not computer animation as it could exist in the early 70's.

Then I saw the pose and thought "It looks like the Visible Man model" and thought they might have painted it black and light projected a grid on it to get the grid body.

But The Bionic Book says I had it backwards, they painted it white and pasted on grid paper. The guy that did the work called it "the invisible model" but I knew what he was talking about.

According to the 'An Iconic Opening' featurette on the DVD set, layered graphics were also used starting with season two.
