I'm sorry to see him go too. I admit that I am a Tennant fan but Smith filled the Tardis really well. Too short a stay IHO.

It sure seems like we are being kept to the old Jonathan Powell (BBC Controller) nonsense about the actor only staying for 3 years. Yes Eccelstone as one Year and David had a the Specials year but Chris only wanted 1 year and David and Matt only got 3 full seasons each. To me Jon Pertwee's 5 seasons is the right length of time for an actor to be the Doctor. 5 Full seasons. Matt has grown on me and i will miss him, i hate the false reports of just a few weeks/months ago where it was stated he'd be back for another year. It would be interesting If John Hurt took over as # 12 for next season, we need an older Doctor again and if he edgier it might be intriguing.

Here's an interesting thought...what if Smith regenerates back into Tennant?!

Of all the Doctors, David Tennant has still closely aligned himself with the current show, he continues to appear in the Specials, his episodes are screened regularly, and he is very popular..what if?

Or deciding to just go for as much money as they possibly could grab without robbing Fort Knox, they combine series and the new Doctor Who regenerates into Daryl Dixon from The Walking Dead!

An event of that magnitude in the WHOverse would have fangirls (and boys) dancing in the streets. I'm sure, but I can't see Tennant wanting to take a step back or Moffat wanting to repeat the past. Would be cool to see, though!!

If the Doctor were ever to reverse-regenerate, I'd much rather he became Paul McGann again.

Or even Richard E. Grant, who played the Doctor in the non-canon Scream of the Shalka, and the spoof The Curse of Fatal Death.

Sure, Grant has also played Dr. Walter Simeon in DW, but it wouldn't be the first time the Doctor was played by an actor who had previously played another character in the show.

With Simeon entering the Doctor's time-stream, I expect some creative writer to figure out how he becomes the Shalka Doctor. Of course, REG was also one of the Doctors in the "Curse of the Fatal Death" spoof.
