Carrie Fisher Is Talking Herself Out of the New Star Wars Movies

This "Will I, won't I be in the new movies" is getting old. Unless she's gonna reprise her role in her Jabba's Palace outfit, I don't want see her in anything ever again.

Of the three primary original cast members, I most want Hamill to return, playing an older Luke training the next generation of Jedi.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if she doesn't. And it's nothing against her as an actress, because I think she's pretty good. But after ALL these years, and the natural process of aging has taken it's course, I'm not sure audiences would embrace a new look after her last iconic role in the bikini outfit. I think she understandably is nervous about a comparison with the last film that honestly is not fair after all these years. And I'm sure she's worried about how that impacts her legacy in the franchise. Does she want to be the actress that is remembered for tantalizing curves in a great outfit or the actress that came back to show how mother nature takes that away? Yeah, that's a stance in vanity that may not be warranted. But she's an actress. And most actors noted for such things are going to be hesitant about a followup performance where, especially in THIS series, fans are less than forgiving when reality doesn't meet with their expectations (rationale or not). And I'm sure she doesn't want to have to hear unflattering comparisons, even though it's been 30 years since her last performance. For some fans it's still a followup to what they last remember about Leia. And her self-deprecating comments sounds to me like someone preparing themselves for the worst.

I hope she reconsiders, but I honestly wouldn't blame her. I understand she's gotten herself back into shape recently, but she has battled with her weight quite a bit over the last several decades. And as Tom said, vanity often comes with acting, or even any kind of celebrity.

Die hard fans of ANY property tend to cast their favorite characters and actors in a time warp. Imagine Burt Ward trying to reprise his role as Dick Grayson/Robin now. Fans would have a hard time excepting the current, overweight Burt Ward, even as an aged version of the character. Fit Adam West, on the other hand, would be readily accepted as a Batman Beyond-era Bruce Wayne.

She is just joking and she is known for her self depreciating humor. Until the cast is officially announced on Star Wars.com, I wouldn't really worry about it.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I just want to see Chewbacca with male pattern baldness and a comb over...

Seriously, for me Hammill is the only must have. He has the right age, the look, he'd totally fit as a Jedi Master now.

Carrie Fisher is an accomplished writer and script doctor, she's far more than Princess Leia.

Agreed, a fine author. Surrender the pink is a pretty good novel.

Right, which means she doesn't HAVE to do it. Hopefully she will, and she is just messing with folks.

Nowadays most movies like this only have pretty people play in them.

Even Christopher Lee at 150 years old looked good

I can see why she don't wanna stick out like a sore thumb

She has enough money to live very comfortably without doing it

Nobody *has* to do anything... but the 3 original leads WILL do the movie.

If they *don't* (after it's been confirmed that an offer is on the table for a script that includes the big 3 actors), the backlash from fans and otherwise will be too huge to escape.

Incidentally, I wouldn't be surprised if Alec Guiness showed up in this one too.
