Star Trek: Into Darkness Possible SPOILERS

I felt like this movie could have gone to television. I can see this cast doing a weekly show. I'd watch. I'd rather watch it on TV than have to pay to see it. Lets get this five year mission rolling.

My (admittedly somewhat unlikely) prediction: One more movie, and then the franchise (alternate universe premise and majority of the existing cast intact) goes back to TV for the entirety of the 5 year mission.

I saw it and enjoyed it all the way up to Khan. Then went ahhhhhhhhhh geeeezzzzzzzzzzzzz. Then started enjoying it again when they teamed up. Then they lost me when WOK took over. The writers are hacks who have made a living doing remakes. Don't get me started on this new timeline divergence that started cool then went stupid when they didn't bother to keep things from before the divergence the same, but thats a whole nuther quantum mechanics thread.

Thank you. Sums up my feelings exactly. 2/3 of the movie was pretty original and enjoyable. The last 1/3 was like watching a copy of something that I had already seen in another movie. If it had started with a familiar premise and then went in a new direction, I would have enjoyed it more. I did like it however and will likely give it another viewing in the theater. 2nd time viewing in theater is a tradition for me with Trek and the ones I didn't like the 1st viewing, I like much better the 2nd. So we'll see...

I love how people say it's under performing at Just 84 million Dollars...sheesh what a crank azz society we live in....I'd love to under perform and just get 84 mil.....some people like to wait to see what others say before they actually head out to see it......

I saw it this afternoon and loved it. A fun ride from start to finish.

I am still surprised that the audience loves a rip off of ST: TWoK.

I suppose they should just steal everything in The Undiscovered Country for the next movie, but add an obvious twist to make it 'okay.' Maybe have humans as an endangered species after and accident causes the sun to be extinguished, and General Kang is sent to help The Federation, while Kirk steals a cloaking device and uses it aboard the Enterprise to stop friendly Klingons who try to give food, water and ships to Starfleet. Captain Kirk attacks the new Vulcan colony, makes it look like the Klingons did it, then the Vulcans, the Humans and the Klingons get to have a massive hour and a half space battle in 3D. Ending with Kirk being blown up by Kang's gas seeking torpedo, but then Spock sends Kang to a Vulcan penal colony.

Does Meyer, and the writers of Space Seed and Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, get paid again for their work and ideas (intellectual property)?, or do they at least get a credit for it, or a special thanks?

I know I'm posting the same thing twice but I didn't realize theres two different threads about this movie. Anyway, to repeat myself intentionally....

I can't believe they kept the details about this film under wraps the way they did. Go see it before you find out too much about it. What the trailer showed and what the movie is are two different things but the final film is soooo much better than I thought. I'm pretty sure this is the best Trek film to date and word of mouth will help this along.

As for the ticket sales you cannot go by those. Theaters are always padding their numbers by selling the incorrect film to the movie you ask for. Last week I went to see Gatsby, and the cashier gave me two tickets for Iron Man 3. Today I asked for two tickets for Star Trek and got two tickets to Iron Man 3. This isn't an accident. Theaters do this deliberately to offset the cost of the price they pay for the number of prints they ordered per theater. I spent years working in movie theaters as a manager and we were told for years by the GM's to do this exact same thing from time to time. Lord of The Rings was a huge offender of this same practice. Box Office cashiers are told to do it discreetly and selectively and it's way more rampant than you might think.

A few things I didn't like about the first move is how stark plasticy white the Enterprise interiors were and all the glare and lens flair. Has this been changed or toned down at all in the new movie?

Unfortunately, it's not doing all that well at the box office. It's not breaking any records. That being said, all the Star Trek movies never really set the box office on fire. Of the older movies, maybe Star Trek 4 and 8 did any business.

I do like the fact that these new films make the Engineering part of the ship far more complex than it has ever been before. The ship feels more 'real' somehow, ad a result.

Saw it and enjoyed it. I was surprised they killed off pike. I wanted to laugh a little more, but i enjoyed when kirk accused spock of throwing him "under the bus."

Saw it It was Absolutely Spectacular!!!!!!!! Just flat out entertaining!
