They should have made Flash Gordon 1980 model kits

Was just watching Flash Gordon 1980

Wonder why they never released Flash Gordon model kits

They should have at least made Ajax General and Flash on a rocket cycle

A lot of people today say the movie was a bomb - but it wasn't ...

Back in 1980 I was 15 and I clearly remember EVERYBODY liking it in highschool

The Flash Gordon theme was even in own local pizza places juke box

Although Flash Gordon went on to have a healthy afterlife that has grown through the decades, his theatrical release was in fact a financial failure. It cost nearly $35 million to make (without marketing costs included), but only took in $27 million. The song by Queen was embraced for a while. But that had more to do with the rise of Queen's star than this film. I think the film is more appreciated by today's generation than it ever was by ours. I personally always liked it. And when BBP made a Mego version of both Sam and Ming, I was elated. Because no one would have dared dream of such a possibility taking place 25 years after the film's release. So, like me, it has it's admirers. But we can be grateful later generations figured it out that helped feed the merchandise we got a few short years ago.

I adore this movie--would've bought kits & toys for sure. Went to see it with friends for my birthday, and got the soundtrack LP for Christmas.

And then watched it ad nauseum on HBO.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Or figures at least. Lots of nifty designs in that movie.

Weird aside: my technical first custom Mego was for this film. I repainted a Kirk, and made him a Flash-appropriate shirt.

Alex Ross has got some merchandise thru because of his enthusiasm for the film. I sent him a message on his website once to ask him to push for models and die cast ships. So far haven't heard any murmurs that he's actively trying to get a Co. to make them.
