Now cry like Lincoln -- heeeelp meeee kirrrrrk

I always liked the Star Trek Lincoln episode in a season-3 cheesie way but there's a few things about it that always bug me.

    1. Ever notice anything said that the Excalbian is interested in is said by an Excalbian/Human ? .... Why even bother having Kirk and Spock there ?

    2. If the Excalbian want them all to fight to the death it's kinda not fair giving the good guys Mr Whimp.... I would love to see Kirk ask the Excalbian, "can we trade him in for somebody else ?"

    3. For a fight to the death battle it seems weird it ends with Colonel Green dying and everybody else running off ......... Wasn't this a Kirk tactic ? .... didn't he make his defendable base as a place to retreat too ?

    4. When the Excalbian is introducing the bad guys he don't give Genghis Khan a mini bio .... Why ? ...... shhhhh, because the audience already knows who Genghis Khan is

My old dog-earred copy of the Nitpickers Guide for Classic Trekkers points out that The Shat splits his pants in this episode, during one of the fight scenes.

I always liked this episode too. Probably the first time Lincoln was portrayed as an action hero, and who knows, may have influenced his future role as a fictional vampire hunter!

This was one of the last episodes i finally got to watch of the Original series. As far as getting a wimp, Spock should be blamed for having no action oriented hero.

I love the voice & design of the Excalbian.

When you compare ST: TOS to Lost in Space, it looks like ILM did it lol.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

Is it just me, or is Kirk a bit of an ethnocentric jerk? Spock knows an insanely detailed amount of Earth's history, down to teeny tiny details like who died at the OK Corral, and his best friend Kirk never even heard of one of the most central figures of Vulcan history? Kinda jerky.

I guess Bones is the same way. He's always complaining that he doesn't know enough about Vulcan physiology to help Spock - but he doesn't seem to have learned more next emergency. Come on Bones, take a data card out of the library and brush up a bit!

^Bones also didn't know much about Klingon physiology in Star Trek VI. With a ship full of Klingons coming over, you think he we would have "boned up" on the basics, anyhow.

Bones is not as good of a doctor as he gets credit for.

He's probably the worst Star Trek doctor --- and not because he's the earliest

If I was sick i'd trade Bones away for Bashir or Crusher in a second.

                  ^But he's a great psychologist.

And I think what you call lack of expertise is really just him being a curmudgeon. He came through in Miri, with the Horta, etc.

I dunno .... Spock super-shamed him into taking the medicine in Miri

If you ever watch that epsiode Spock comes off like a manipulative jerk in that scene

I grok Spock, but he's often a smug, supercilious jerk lol.

As I get older, McCoy has become my favorite crewmember.

I've always had a soft spot for Bones. He's a great tie-breaker between Kirk's impulsiveness and Spock's cold logic.

Haha - watching them all recently had me thinking I like McCoy the best now too. As a doctor his bedside manor sucks though, and the only time I think he didn't whine about working on a Vulcan is when he was fixing up evil Spock in"mirrior Mirrior"' which I found ironic.

In a way I think Spock should be more smug, no matter how many crazy jams he gets everyone out of people are always trying to sass him.
