Help! Name of an 80's TV Sci-fi movie with a futuristic truck with 3 linked wheels

Ok this is killing me because my memory is pretty good for stuff like this.

I remember a made-for-tv movie, I believe it was in the 80's - that had a this futuristic tank/truck type thing. I think it was a group of survivors in a post-apocalyptic earth.

What I remember most is this truck/tank sort of looked like the Battlestar Galactica / Big Trak. And it had this distinct trait where each wheel was three wheels in a triangle - and if got a flat it would rotate them around.

Anyone know what I'm thinking of? I think there was a sequel to this, too.

    Thanks in advance!

Yeah, it does sound like the Landmaster from Damnation Alley, especially the triangular triple-wheel configuration you describe.

But Damnation Alley was a theatrical release from 1977, not an 80s TV movie.

You're right, but I don't know of anyone who saw it in theaters. I think most folks remember it from late night/Saturday afternoon tv.

I never even heard of Damnation Alley until the early 80's

It must have had super-bad promotion

Nowadays they would have at least made a Landmaster toy

We have a winner!! It was Damnation Alley. I found it while I was surfing in bed before I went to sleep - so I didn't have time to post. The fact it was re-run on TV in the early 80's is why I thought it was a made for TV movie. All I cared about in '77 was Star Wars

It's amazing how your subconscious works. I was half-watching some A-Team re-runs while I was working at home, and that's when I got the strong image of the Landmaster. Of course, after I found it, turns out George Peppard was in it, hence the memory.

God I thought that thing was cool back in the day.

The TV broadcast version also featured additional scenes not included in the theatrical release.

I seem to recall it appeared in a Road Warrior-like commercial at one time? It may have also appeared in a short-lived series called The Highwayman with Sam J. Jones?

Same vehicle was used in both.
The cockroaches when they were looking for gas freaked me out!

Damnation Alley went over budget and the release was held up a year due to the difficulty of making those irradiated skies in a good chunk of the movie. Back then, putting any optical scenes that didn't have a locked down camera was very difficult. Most of DA's effects were pretty bad (the scorpions, the model car for the flood and a lot of the flood was lifted from Earthquake!) but the irradiated skies looked great. They blew most of their budget and post production on that. So DA came out in the year of Star Wars, if it came out in 1976 it might have been a better remembered movie.
