BSG: Original compared to the "reboot" (Opinions?)

I've never seen the rebooted version of Battlestar Galactica so I have no idea what it's like (I've only ever seen the original...)

I'm just wondering what people think of the "new" one versus the original: Is it a worthy reboot of the franchise? A total waste of time? Thoughts/opinions?

I've enjoyed it quite a bit. Compared to the old show its a bit slower and drawn out, but not so squeeky clean either. I like how it handled Commander Kaine especially.

For me, the original is far superior. It's one of my all time favourite TV shows.
I watched the full run of the reboot, and parts of it were pretty cool, but on the whole it was a disappointment.
To me, there is only one true Battlestar Galactica, and that's the original.

I liked the reboot. to me it was a really well done show, just a very different take on BG. I don't really compare the two. they are just each good in their own right

I loved the original BSG series when I was 8, and loved the new BSG when I was well, much older than 8.

I still love the original series, and the reboot is a pretty amazing series too. The new one has much more drama dripping from it, so it's really tough to compare the two. Both have their places....

8yr old me prefers the original; present day me can hardly watch some of the episodes. I love the reboot.

I thought the reboot was the best show on television at the time it was aired. Excellent show, but as much a character study/drama as it was a Sci-Fi show, while the original was strictly Sci-Fi. Well worth a viewing, you won't regret it.

I love them both. I feel that they have very little to do with each other, so both are great.
The new BSG has some terrific story writing and is exciting.

I have to agree that some of the old BSG eps are pretty hard to watch now. I do still prefer old Cylons to new (the robot kind), and the new Baltar and Number Six are annoying as hell.

My only translation problem in modern adaptations has been the Cylons. I think they need to get closer to the look they had in the original. No, they don't have to be stuntmen in outfits. But it would be nice to see a design that gives them more of an android feel than a rickety robot. If they could get that right, I would be sold.

I love the original and watched the first season of the new one. It became more of a political thiller/Psycological show than a scifi show.i only saw a few episodes after that and Balter and #6 just drove me nuts and made it unwatchable. As well as having "Human Cylons" just annoying.

I think the first few seasons of the reboot were just about the best sci-fi ever done on TV, although I didn't enjoy it as much towards the end. The original was colorful, fun, and a little cheesy. The reboot is a much darker, more psychological take on the story.

It's kind of like comparing the Adam West Batman TV series to the Christopher Nolan Batman movies.

                        Hmmmm....

They're both products of their time, so be prepared. I like the original, silly as it is 'cos it had all sorts of weird stuff. I like weird. The new one; not so much. The new one is more tightly written, and they have more character development; but as a product of it's era it's all of the "GRRRR!!!! Angry!" style. They also downplay a lot of the science fictiony aspects; so the uniforms look pseudo-current. (More like Tac Ops than military, but still current.) Folks dress like modern people, the insides of the ship look like a modern warship.... stuff like that. The new one also had one thing that really got to me (and ended up being why I stopped watching) and that was how Baltar had a nekkid chick in his head who's job it was to explain the plot. Things like that drive me nuts 'cos it breaks continuity and it's sloppy writing.

I was against the reboot and didn't even watch the series until the final season.I was wrong it was an incredible show.
There really is no comparison between the two shows other than the name and names of some of the characters.

While I still love the original there was plenty of room in my heart for this show as well.
                          So say we all!!!
Now off to watch BSG:blood and chrome.

I've said it before (acually about ten threads down), I was initially skeptical about the Moore re-imagined BG and even skipped the first half season. However once I actually sat down and caught up (I watched a marathon before the second half premiere) I was hooked. In the end Moore's BG was far, far superior to Larson's especially once girl Starbuck was toned down. In fact Moore's BG is one of my picks for one of the best tv series ever.

I say give the "new" series chance. Try to get past the idea that the universe is the same and look at it seperate from the original.
If I had only spent a tenth of the time studying Physics that I spent learning Star Wars and Baseball trivia, I would have won the Nobel Prize.

I prefer the 'real' one from back in the 70's.

Okay, it was cheesy; sometimes extremely so.

But at the center of it all, the people had hope of finding Earth, and rebuilding their lives there.

The people on the new show were shown as being downbeaten, downtrodden, hopeless, angry, angsty, greedy, and whiney.

There were so many subplots going on it was hard to keep track.

It seemed that they were going to die in space, no matter what they did, and that for every step forward, they took two steps back.

Political infighting, conflicts between tribal cultures, rampant promiscuity (or so it seemed to me), Cylons that looked human, rampant paranoia, claustrophobia, and despair; the show was rife with it.

Sure, in classic BSG, the civilians of the Fleet had their problems, but they knew that their best chance of survival was to stick together, no matter what kind of intertribal conflicts they had.

Yes, the Council of Twelve was made up of old people who were set in their ways, but better the devil you know, than the devil you don't know.

The people knew what their representatives were capable of; and made sure that they stayed in office where they could keep an eye on them.
