I've always been interested in watching that show, but I've never really heard anything good about it. How does it compare to other sci-fi shows from the period, like Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, Space: 1999, etc...?

It was a cool series, and although it lacked the spectacular, epic nature of Galactica and Buck, it was a solid show.
The series changed a few things from the movie, and added some cool elements such as the android REM, and the neat hover car.
On the whole it was one of my favourite shows.

Certainly, Heather Menzies was hot as Jessica, but for me she'll never quite equal the utterly awesome gorgeousness of Jenny Agutter in the movie.

Heather Menzies is/was Robert Urich's wife.

I would best describe it as Planet of the Apes the TV series meets Gene Roddenberry's Planet Earth/Genesis II

I love Jenny, but Heather fills that dress out so perfectly

I have always liked this show. DC Fontana worked on this show so it does have that thoughtful approach to science fiction. I am sure someone else, somewhere has probably said this, but without REM, I don't think Data gets developed as a character for TNG a decade later.
              It's all good!

I recall watching this first-run & enjoying it--I liked the Marvel LR comic, too.

Is the TV series on DVD?
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I only saw one ep, but I liked it. I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

Having recently rewatched them I gotta say it hold up pretty durned well. You'll recognize all the "classic" early 70's tropes (although I don't think there was an evil circus....) but they handled them a bit differently than most. So it becomes it's own thing. (And I LOVE that the robot guy NEVER wants to be human. You never see that sort of thing....)

The only thing I can't get used to is the super-cheesy intro theme

The 70's "bue bue bue bue" sound is overused to the extreme

^yeah. It does get annoying after awhile. I put it on the same scale as the "wheeewhaaaaa.....wheeewhaaaa" at the beginning of the Ironsides theme.
                            It's all good!

Everytime I watch an episode I want Logan to quote the movie Stripes, "lighten up Francis"
