    >I've seen a lot of people just freaking out about this news and I really can't get SUPER excited about this

Yeah.... for me it's another example of seeing the same names I see on too many things already. I'd be more excited if they announced the driector was someone I'd never heard of, and they were presnting the story of a character who was completely new and not related to anything that already exists. I think the only way to REALLY capture the feel and excitement of the originals is to do what the originals did; something different and unexpected.

But, but then the audience wouldn't know what to expect! An how would they market somthing the audience hadn't seen before? If you give them something new, the studio can't predict how they'll react! Madness, Don, madness . . .

So far from what I seen from JJ has been really good, and I'm excited about seeing the new Trek movie this summer. I think he has what it takes to make Star Wars great again. I just think, and I have that feeling I preaching to the choir here, that Star Wars needs to be a little bit darker and be more dramatic - minus the childish approach Lucas took it to like in the last 3 movies. I guess what I'm saying is, I want to see JJ to take it to the next level and give us a Spielberg kind of Star Wars

            Ditto.

I admit to enjoying the prequels, but they would never be as good as the originals. I also think the prequels tried too hard to minimize actual physical sets. Say what you will, but that takes away the realism. The actors need to have something to work with. I once heard Harrison Ford say one of the most important things to him in preparing for a role was knowing what kind of clothes the character wears because it dictates to an extent how that person moves, what they do for a living, and personality. I think the same thing can be said about the sets an actor works on. If they have something there in person to relate to and interact with, you will get a much better performance out of them.

Anyway, I think that was just one problem with the prequels. That and Lucas seemed hell bent on making stuff for kids to watch. Well you know what? I was kid when I watched the originals. I wasn't scarred by the violence or anything. I think in his later years, Lucas's directorial views have changed and it is obvious if you watch an interview with him from 30 years ago vs today. He wants to tell different types of stories for a different audience and unfortunately, that doesn't work well with Star Wars.

That being said, I welcome the fresh air of Disney and JJ. Given how well the first Pirates of the Carribean was done, I think Disney influence along with a contemporary director could only help things. But I am also glad that Lucas is still on board as story consultant. I have never been a fan of anyone "taking someone else's baby away". As story consultant, Lucas will shine again I think. He is a good story teller, just not always the best at executing the plot to film when he is only surrounded by "yes men" who will not say "no" to help keep things grounded.

I liked the prequels, warts and all. But I hope that with the new series we get grittier aliens and not just computer generated Muppets.
I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.

So the news came out that the Half Life movie directed by Quentin Tarantino is destined to join the list of the greatest science fiction movies that were never actually filmed. It has damned good company ... 10 The "Real" Alien 3 The most excited I've ever b

Every bit of that article backs me up on that. No question.
