Pretty much everything JJ touches turns to gold. He'll also be the first to direct ST and SW films. Looking forward to this. Hope Tom Cruise won't be anywhere in sight to screw this up.

Exactly and Disney just insured that the ball likely won't get dropped.
I've seen a lot of people just freaking out about this news and I really can't get SUPER excited about this. I am confident that Abrams is going to make a decent movie and maybe even an epic movie, but he's a very safe choice.
Kind of like when Hollywood gives the Superman franchise to the director of Batman.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I thought "Super 8" did an excellent job mimicking Spielberg's style. I hope he takes the same approach with the new Star Wars flick, and does it as an homage to Lucas and Kirschner's work in the original trilogy.
But you know, I couldn't remember the name of "Super 8" (I knew "8mm" wasn't right...) so I had to look Abrams up on IMDB. He has such a prestigious reputation as a producer and writer, I never realized just how few things he has directed! 4 motion pictures (Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, Super 8, and Mission Impossible 3). A handful of TV episodes. Really not that much of a track record as a director... which come to think of it, makes him even more like Lucas.Comment

I guess this pretty much puts the kibosh on the Micronauts movie. After he's done with SW, I doubt he'll want to pounce on another space opera (assuming the Micronauts movie follows the characters from the comic books, or much less the toys).I am more than machine. More than man. More than a fusion of the two.Comment

Looks like each movie of the new trilogy will be helmed by a different director, like the classic trilogy was.
Abrams is a big SW fan, which bodes well.PUNY HUMANS!Comment

Probably the only chance that a decent Star Wars movie could be made.
Mina is the world's first Paranormal Petsitter in the new middle-grade book series by Gary Buettner, MONSTER PETS, coming in FALL 2014 from EMBY KIDS. Spooky adventure that's perfect reading for kids 8-12

I must admit, I'm quietly optimistic. They could have chosen a lot worse..

Don't get me wrong, I love the Trek reboot. However, I can't help but wonder if he'll do anything comparable to the Spock/Uhura dynamic he added.Comment
