JJ Abrams to direct SW: Episode VII

I am looking forward to see how this plays out. I think it's a smart move to focus on the second since sometimes the second can trump the first. I'm more a fan of ESB.

JJ Abrams to direct SW: Episode VII

J.J. Abrams is set to direct “Episode VII.”

Sources have confirmed the “Star Trek Into Darkness” filmmaker will helm the next “Star Wars” movie, the highly anticipated installment in the landmark franchise scheduled to reach theaters in 2015.

“Star Wars: Episode VII” will be written by Michael Arndt, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of “Little Miss Sunshine” and “Toy Story 3.”

Simon Kinberg and Lawrence Kasdan have been tapped to write “Star Wars” projects as well, but it’s unclear whether their scripts will be for future episodes or for films outside the official trilogy.

The upcoming trilogy of new films was announced Oct. 30 when the Walt Disney Co. went public with its plans to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion.

With the right amount of money, anyone could be bought. Nonetheless, I'm pretty happy about it. He's been able to breathe new life into Star Trek. Plus also like that he isn't afraid to use practical effects along with digital.

I say this tongue in cheek, but I wonder since the new trek movie was more Star Wars like will the new Star Wars be more cerebral and Trek like
            It's all good!

I feel a great disturbance in the force, as if a billion fanboys cried out and suddenly reignited the Kirk vs. Han, Falcon vs. Enterprise, Khan vs. Vader skirmishes. Live long and prosper while the force is with you.

I am excited for this. First of all, we get new people directing and writing these. One of the big problems with the prequels was they were all George Lucas. Second, it shows that Disney is going all in trying to put together a group of talented people to make what will hopefully be a quality set of films.

Luke and Leia crashland their X-Wing on an island.
Suddenly, they get attacked by a never-ending series of confusing flashbacks.

Then they encounter a mysterious black cloud. Luckily, it's just Chewie, who hasn't had a shampoo and trim since the Battle of Endor...

I wonder if the new film will have the old characters as Lucas last conversation with Mark Hamill hinted at:

hey, he reinvigorated Trek in a spectacular fashion so hopefully he can do the same with SW. I honestly have to say, although I am interested in what they will put out, I am not excited about new movies yet. I mean, we were all stoked for the prequels, and although each had it's good points, they ultimately were a let down. SW deserves a chance at redemption
