Any fans of Game of Thrones?

I was thinking of trying this on DVD.
    Is it any good?

They haven't shown it on TV here yet, so I have no real idea what to expect...

Yeah - it's awesome. My wife got me hooked into this - though, it took the first 4 or so episodes for it to start working for me.

I'm not a fantasy fan in general - LOTR and stuff just just isn't my thing. For me the characters are usually too flat (good guys/bad guys). But this is very driven by interesting and often extremely flawed characters. The performances are great - just enough subtlety to make them sophisticated, but still big and comic-booky enough to be really fun.

Plus - it's got lots of great sex and violence... If you're into that kinda thing.

Yes, it's a very good show.
Well acted, well written and with great production design.
Lots of battle, blood and boobs.

And it's even a fairly accurate adaptation of the novels, too.
      PUNY HUMANS!

great show. just finished rewatching season 1 on blu ray. i am half way through book 4 of the series. the first season of the show was very faithful to the book, the second season veared a little but mostly to condense things. I heard book 3 would be broken up over season 3 and 4 so it should be interesting.
the show is really well done, great cast, even the kids. the villains are so despicable you love to hate them. even my wife is hooked and she is not big on sci fi or fantasy in general

It's literally the reason I have HBO now.

I absolutely love the show, and that got me started reading the books. I'm half way through the third book and am loving it as much as I do the show, actually even more so. I highly recommend both!

Great story, can't wait for season 2 on blu ray, as I dont have HBO. My only complaint is that there are so many different characters, sometimes it takes a while to get back to a particular story. It's a mild complaint because I really enjoy all of them. Just be aware there are a lot of sex scenes and full male/female nudity. (if that matters to you)

I will admit that I gave up on it during the first season, however, I kind of feel that it's my fault somehow.

I was a little skeptical at first but once I watched a few episodes, I was hooked. It is an excellent show. I couldn't wait for season 2 so I read the book, I ended up getting book 3 and 4 as well, and I am not a big reader. Looking forward to the season 2 DVD since I don't have HBO.

There is a lot of characters to keep track of, that's one cool thing about the books, there's an appendix at the back that lists the members of all the various families and houses, it comes in handy sometimes. So do the maps.

Totally your fault! But seriously, what aspect made you give up on it?
