    Flash Gordon (really dumb question)

I always wondered how come sometimes Flash Gordon is written like this --- FL'ASH GORDON ....... and sometimes there's no apostrophe.

I've never ever seen anything like that.

The apostrophe is even on the Mego cards and sometimes appears on SOME Sam Jones promo stuff

If you are talking about this logo:

I think that's just a decorative swoosh off the "A", not an accent mark or apostrophe.

Yea, but sometimes it clearly looks like an apostrophe - even as far back as comics and the Buster Crabbe era

Bad printing, or maybe somebody in the art department thought it was an apostrophe.

When you watch the German produced series from the 50s, most of the cast are speaking almost phonetic english.

The logo is supposed to look like it's made of flames so I always assumed it was a stray ember like in art for the Human Torch.

I'm pretty sure it's just an artistic addition, sort of a filler to balance the negative space created by the "LA" shapes and make a prettier design. Here's a couple examples..the zeitgeist one is from the current Dynamite comic book series.

I never really paid attention to it before, but I see it now. I guess I always just assumed it was a stylized "A". Sometimes it's written as "Flesh Gordon" but don't let the kids watch that one!
