    MANIMAL...the Movie!

Seriously, this is a sign of the Mayan Apocalypse.

Manimal was very ambitious at the time...too much so for television, IMO. I really liked the series...short lived as it was. The transformation scenes were very well done for TV. The concept itself is incredibly cool, so with todays FX, a film could actually be great.

I loved the short-lived series and would love to see a movie based on it made.

          Hmmmm....

I'm kinda surprised it took THIS long. The original was a generic tv detective/spy/p.i. show with a somewhat inventive schtick. (There were a LOT of those in the 80's.) It'd be easy to redo nowadays, probably wouldn't even have to rewrite anything.... just slap some current names onto it and add some excessively expensive effects. The name is well known enough folks will remember it, but not remember WHY they remember it. Perfect; from a marketing perspective.

My Manimal figure will double in value now!

Does anybody remember when Manimal appeared on Nightman in a team up two parter? Seriously, that did happen right, cause I loved Malt Liquor at that point in my life.....

It's actually a concept ripe for a CGI spectacle. And as CTC said the name is out there (I've even seen a grungy T-shirt with the logo recently), but you aren't going to have legions of fans griping about them "ruining the original".

I loved Manimal, but in thinking back on my childhood I could never be totally sure if I loved it because it was good - or because it was hard for me to catch because it was on late and then it disappeared. Like a forbidden fruit thing.

Side point - thinking back, it seems there were a lot more British stars on American TV shows in the 80s... I wonder if that's true.

Pierce Brosnan was pretty popular in Remington Steele at the time...

Nah, a lot of Brits hide their accents these days, I think there may be more now.

                      That's a fair point.
