Identify this movie?

Years ago - like the late 70's early 80's - one afternoon I saw this sort of sci-fi movie and was wondering if anyone knew the name. From what I remember it centered around a scientist who during a lab experiment/accident found himself in a alternate reality only there he wasn't a scientist but ( I think ) a big game hunter/author and married. In the alternate reality he was also not a likeable person. He falls in love with his "wife" only for here to die of a ( I think ) brain condition that can't be cured in this reality but he knows that in his reality there is a cure. He finally returns to his reality and finds the counterpart to his "wife" just in time for her to get the life saving operation and it looks like they will llive happily ever after.

Yup, I think that's it. While it's not a movie I'm going to go looking for a copy of, it's always bugged me not knowing the name of something that I remember that clearly.

Actually it wasn't bad at all and worth a watch.
