Picked up this set today and all I can say is if you don't have a blu-ray player yet, GET ONE. This series alone is worth it.
I have to commend Paramount for what they have done here is absolutely monumental. The only existing copies of TNG available before this (even on DVD) were video transfers, because that is how the series was originally edited for broadcast. They initially tried a simple HD upconvert and decided it wasn't good enough, so what they did next is unbelievable.
They had to unearth every element of the original 35MM film, from background plates, to live action, to model shots and recomposite every single frame. They said it sometimes took months to find just a few seconds of footage that wasn't properly catalogued.
Then all the original video FX had to be digitally recreated in CGI, from the transporters, to the phasers, the ship lights and engines, right down to the tiniest detail on every planet. They basically refilmed every single episode and the end result is just staggering.
You have NEVER seen TNG like this...it is truly like seeing it for the first time. The level of detail, colors and FX will blow your mind. I cannot possibly recommend it enough.
