Neat stuff. I didn't realize that they had to hand paint the glow of the circuits on the suits frame by frame. It's all good! -
Cool stuff to know about Tron, thanks for posting this.I would never of known any of that, always thought it was all computer animation.Must of taken ages to paint the glowing circuits on the film. Love the shot of the restaurant in Culver City, can just imagine the Flynns Arcade sign above the entrance.

I know this will sound weird on this forum, but as much of a geek as I am, I've never seen Tron. Is it really worth checking out? Is it comparable to any other movie? It always looked a bit odd to me, so I've always just kind of skirted around it.Comment

I think it's worth checking out,it's an old film so you may feel that the effects are very dated, the music has it's moments but other than that,it's not bad,I am abit biased,as I grew up with this film and still love it,I don't know if there has been a blue-ray release for it though.

There's actually a lot of misinformation in that article. Tron is one of my all time favorite films, and I've studied in intensely for years.
As hard as this may be to believe, all the live action scenes within the Tron world were filmed entirely in black and white. The actors faces and costumes were colorized using the same technique used to colorize old b/w films. The lighted circuits on the costumes were not hand painted frame by frame at all. The costumes were made white with black circuits, so they would appear black with white circuits on the negatives. This allowed the circuits to be backlit by shining intense colored light directly into the camera through those negatives. The backlit circuitry was then recomposited with the colorized live action plate to achieve the final look.Comment

It's pretty different. Kinda dry, but some good, weird stuff. Plotwise it'll feel familair. (Mysterious stranger frees the people from the tyrannical overlord.)
