I finally seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I know i'm a tad late to chime in ... but thanks to free HBO this weekend I finally seen Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Before I get to goods and bads i'll start by saying I really liked it.

Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is the ONLY classic Apes movie I seen in the movies back in the day --- so it holds a little special spot for me.
IMO, Rise totally blows Conquest out of the water.
This is one unique case where I like the remake way BETTER than the original.

I loved all the wink wink classic references that was thrown in for classic fans

I didn't have a lot of hope for Rise when I seen Ceasar young because the baby chimp CGI was EXTRA bad .... but thankfully it got a little better when he grew up ...
All in all the CGI wasn't great .... The CGI makes the movie look like it was made around 2000-ish... I'm guessing younger people don't notice but us old timers can see bad CGI and unrealistic movement from a mile away.

Getting back to the story --- really good.
This movie is way more believable and interesting than Conquest.

Half of me wishes they used actors in suits --- but the other half likes the upgraded human-ish/chimp look CGI used.
I think I dont mind no humans ape actors in this one because it is the first story so the chimps should look like chimps.

In future stories though, when apes become more "evolved" i'd like to see the return of human actors.

I give Rise 3 out of 4 stars --- and that's a lot coming from me

I missed it. HBO was airing all of those shows hyping the Pacquiao/Bradley fight,I didn't even realize it was on.

I did get the blu ray based on the great reviews on MM and thought it was a great movie. Ditto on the CGI creatures though. There are still too many times that it seems (at least to me) that they are moving in fluid.

I just saw it myself. Two days ago. I enjoyed it too! I can see the set up for a sequel with a certain space ship getting lost on the way to Mars.

Glad you liked it, Mikey, but I thought the CGI was great. My brother wouldn't believe me that Maurice (the orangutan) was CGI, he looked so real. I'm really looking forward to the next one--hopefully a bit more focus on the apes and more action.

                          I liked it a lot.
Yeah, the early CG of the baby chimp wasn't all that great, but once you get into the story, it's very well-written and intelligent.
                          I was pleasantly surprised.

I finally saw it Sunday. Excellent movie. My wife even got into it. I told her it wasn't really Planet of the Apes....yet. Few questions though. Did Caesar's Birth mark move? It was on his left shoulder then later it was on his right shoulder. Also it had been years I thought since David Hewitt got his finger bit off, but at the end he had a finger splint on. And I also didn't feel the love between Freida and Franco, they had been together for over 5 years.

Got to see it last night. HBO finally got around to showing it. All of that build up and in the end,it went nowhere. Bit of a let down for me. Not sure about naming the black dude Jacobs. First thing I thought of is "why name your bad guy after Arthur P. Jacobs?" Although naming the orangutan Maurice was pretty cool. First thing I thought of was Maurice Evans.
