I saw it theatrically and it was sooooo good. I've got the Blu-ray combo pack here, but I just haven't gotten 'round to popping it in the player yet!!! It is a damn fine film---easily the best movie of last year, IMHO...
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Agree! The originals were the best! Are they working on a sequel?

IMHO Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes is as refreshing to the POTA saga as the latest version of Star Trek was to that franchise. Both movies did a fantastic job introducing a younger generation, without alienating the original fans.

                  Great movie!

I spoke with some friends about this film recently. And they are diehard Apes fans. For reasons that seem to be more nostalgic than artistic, they were horrified by this entry. One even said he nearly walked out of the theater. To me, I think the disconnect is the fact it doesn't come with the iconic makeup that was such a big part of that original series. Like so many vintage films, the way a film is made is almost as important as how the story is told. And so, in effect, watching a new entry with anything other than those effects is lost on those fans dialed in a little too tightly with that one visual. I thought the effects were pretty descent. They didn't translate quite as well to the small screen, but it didn't take away from the effectiveness of the story or my desire to watch it. I think it is a classic entry in the Apes franchise.
