    The lone gunmen

I really wanted to like this show. It was the X Files universe and it was supposed to be funny. Particularly given what an unrelenting downer Millenium was.

they were good as supposting characters on xfiles but on their own it was just lame. i did think it sucked the way they killed them off on xfiles afterwards

It is astonishing how Chris Carter couldn't get any traction on another show after X-Files... Harsh Realm, Millennium and Lone Gunmen all looked good on paper and launched relatively strongly. Particularly with the calibre of writing talent involved. Vince Gilligan would go on to create Breaking Bad.

I think it's just that the leads in Lone Gunmen just weren't strong enough to hold their own despite being terrific foils in the X-Files.

Harsh Realm was actually a real cool concept and great show. unfortunately the network kept moving it around in crappy timeslots and it got little to no promotion

I only caught the show on dvd, it was well done. The pre 9-11 pilot episode is a little eerie.

Duchovny and Anderson were so perfect for those characters - I think that's one of the main things that really made that show click. I think that's a nearly impossible thing to plan on though.

Yeah, the first episode's plot to crash an airplane into the streets where the World Trade Center stood isn't talked about very much. Especially since it aired early in what, 2001? Like in the spring or something? Very odd. The show definitely had it's hand on the pulse of something.

                  Nominally based on a comic.

I liked Millennium well enough as well, but I think it just lost steam by being so unrelentingly grim all the time with the exception of the Darren Morgan episode, and even then I think he killed the Charles Nelson Reilly character I loved so much in x-files.

^^^The comic creators sued Carter over the creators credits on that.

That Harsh Realm, only 9 episodes and then cancelled, is it worth watching them?

Writers without a comedy background, writing ham-fisted embarassing gags in which the 3 leads were the butt of nearly every joke was what sank Lone Gunmen. A lower key approach to the humor might've suited the show better than their executed over-the-top gags.
