Kirk is ordering "fire" on the Reliant and each photon torpedo that hits causes damage to another part of the ship inside. The funny thing is each two or three parts shown seems to have the same two stuntmen.

Did Khan's rubber chest survive the blast? You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

That was Ricardo's real chest. See the premire ep. of Fantasy Island, circa 1979. Ricardo Montalban is in disguise in one segment, (looking somewhat like the younger version of Khan but more swarthy), and he is totally pumped up almost like Lou Ferrigno. That guy stayed in shape.Comment

Nick Meyer also swears Ricardo's chest was for real too. Ricardo was very athletic throughout his life.
Also, later on when he has a cut on his chest, you can tell the cut is rubber stuck on to his chest. If his chest was fake they could just cut the fake chest.

I found that in this posted script which has some of the deleted bits I remember hearing about. For instance, there was supposed to be a child in Khan's Compound.

And they have the fabled lines that Shatner apparently bungled and Takai never forgave him for. It's a funny thing though that when Shatner was on Howard Stern, he said he told George " Why do you want your character written onto another ship when the action takes place on The Enterprise?"
KIRK
I really must thank you.

(embarrassed)
I am delighted; any chance to go
aboard Enterprise, however briefly,
is always an excuse for nostalgia.
KIRK
I cut your new orders personally. By
the end of the month, you'll have your
first command: USS EXCELSIOR.
SULU
Thank you, sir. I've looked
forward to this for a long time.
KIRK
You've earned it. But I'm still
grateful to have you at the
helm for three weeks. I don't
think these kids can steer.Comment
