Baffled! Leonard Nimoy, Susan Hampshire, Vera Miles 1973

This is one of my favorite 70's era TV movies from the time I made it a point to catch any of the Trek stars on whatever they might be on.

It was made in England and released theatically in places but shown here as a TV movie and intended pilot.

Leonard Nimoy plays Tom Kovack, a race car driver that suddenly begins to have visions during a race that cause him to crack up (where he seemed to be dead for a moment but came back uninjured). After a TV interview talking about the experience, he is sought out by Michelle Brent (a delicious Susan Hampshire) who is an old book seller and studies the occult and tells him the vision is of the future warning danger to someone that needs their help.

They figure out the person that needs their help is an actress played by Vera Miles. They have to figure out the mystery and save her.

I had this movie on CED disc back (CBS FOX video released it on tape and disc in the 80's) in the day and later on back a more modern VHS(not CBS/Fox). I was ticked to discover the VHS was recorded in EP and edited compared to my old copy.

Later on I was able to get a trade of the CBS/Fox version that was the same version I had in CED. The quality is not bad but not great.

now I see you can buy it on Amazon instant for $10 so I immeadiatly bit. Quality is better but it is the edited version that was in the more recent VHS. Oh Well.

Fact is there are a few versions of the movie (it being distributed internationally) that at least have different type for the title and music in closing credits and the version now in circulation has a bit missing compared to what I had on the CBS/Fox version. I know of one short scene for sure that is edited but I am sure there are more.

Still, for those of you with Amazon instant and a liking for an old fashioned supernatural suspense thriller (with Nimoy to boot) you can't go wrong!

Your right, the 80's VHS release is the full unedited version.

This was a tv movie which was intended to become a tv series but that never happened in the end.
