    Top 5 Best & Worst of sci-fi.

Orange have just announced what they think are the best 5 and the worst 5 sci fi movies ever.

Although personal prefrence might change some of the best 5 i think they are a good 5.
However i'm sure there must be worse films around than the 5 picked.

    Best

    1. 2001
    2. Blade Runner
    3. Empire Strikes Back
    4. Aliens
    5. Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

    Worst

    1. Battlefield Earth
    2. Phantom Menace
    3. The Core
    4. Mac & Me
    5. Planet of the Apes. ( Burton )

Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I think it should be CE3K.

Well it seems like Sci-Fi on this list is specific to outer-space films since all of them except The Core deal with some sort of space travel. To me movies like Donnie Darko, Ghostbusters, or Back To The Future would be Sci-Fi too but that doesn't seem to be the case with this list. Their top five is actually a pretty good list and hard to argue with. I think of the best, the most dubious choice would be Close Encounters but it's still a pretty good film. The Core is another odd choice since it pretty forgettable in the same way a Deep Impact was and it wasn't epically bad like all the others on the list.

For me to consider a film as "best ever" it's all about being able to sit down and watch it over and over again. I mean, I liked 2001 that one time I saw it,but really wouldn't ever sit through it again. The worst movies are the ones that I can't even get through the first time I try to watch it. I never attempted Battlefield Earth so that would be off my list entirely. So keeping in form with a list that deals almost exclusively with space.....

        Best

        1. Star Wars
        2. Empire
        3. Aliens
        4. Space Balls
        5. Total Recall

        Worst
        1. Phantom Menace
        2. Dune
        3. Flash Gordon (I know a lot of you would disagree but I hate the film)
        4. The Fifth Element
        5. Star Trek The Motion Picture

see now I disagree with your worst list altogether Spacecaps

as far as the original list, isn't Mac n Me a kid movie? kind of unfair to put it in the same league as any of these others

Battlefield Earth was awful, i could not even watch the entire thing
i would put attack of the clones on that list before Phantom menace and i really don't believe either belongs on it

Their best list is much better than their worst list. There are far more terrible movies than most on the list.

Have not watched Battlefield Earth but heard that it was a rubbish film.

Skyline would have to go on the worst list,i really did get lost in that film although the aliens were pretty cool.

Other then not being able to stand any of these movies, I have reasons for not liking them. Again I didn't see Battlefield Earth or Skyline and Mac & Me so this is just my list of movies that came to mind that just fell flat with me for various reasons. I don't think I would watch any of them again (unless my son really wants to see the other two Star Wars movies when they hit the theaters again but judging by his reaction to the first one, he won't...)
The Fifth Element was one Chris Tucker away from being an awesome film but he seriously ruined the movie. If I can get an edited copy of the film with out him in it, it be on my best list.
Dune was awful. It gives me a headache just thinking about it.
The Phantom Menace was the biggest disappointment of my life (as were all of the prequels. I'd lump all three as one big failure right at the top of my list.
I never saw Flash Gordon back in the day and tried to watch it just a few months ago for the first time. All I can say was it was bad. I got as far as the tree people and called it quits.
Star Trek 1 was quite possibly the most boring movie I ever had to sit through.

                          Aliens better than ALIEN?

I don't think so (although I do love Aliens).

ALIEN is a true horror sci-fi classic (claustrophobic and intense)...while Aliens is a shoot 'em up space cowboy movie (fun).

I also agree Forbidden Planet should be in there somewhere.

But overall...it's a solid top five list (just switch Aliens for ALIEN)...but you can't please everyone...too many classics out there.

                            Battlefield Earth...while silly...it's actually a fun campy flick...lol.

The Phantom Menace is bad...but there are countless other sci-fi movies much worse than that...take The Creeping Terror for example...oh my goodness...what a horrid pile of dog shiat...lol.

It's so terrible in fact...that not even MST3K can make it interesting...
