Looks great! Bryan Cranston is terrific no matter what role he's in.

Although if they were going to take you that far into the film, why not include a little edit at the end showing him ending up on mars? Someone watching that clip cold might mistake it for a Western.

Saw the movie this morning in IMAX 3D.

      Spectacular.

Sure, it takes a few liberties with ERB's original stories, but the essence is intact and the adaptation is worthy.

There are some truly amazing action set pieces, and the FX are stunning.

      Highly recommended.

I saw it last night. It was a bit too sluggish for the first hour plus. The last 45 minutes really kicks into gear with some great action. For me, this was a little too late to salvage the entire movie.

I hate when that happens, man. I rarely watch the Jackson version of King Kong for that very reason, despite a whole lot of awesomeness when it does actually kick in.

Just got home from the theater and I liked the film. Disney really dropped the ball on marketing and advertising this movie. There should have been John Carter figures!!!

Tonight was opening night at the theater I work at. We're playing it in Imax. After each show I ask random people how they liked the movie. I didn't hear one bad thing. Not one. This one old lady who I never would have pegged as a fan of sci-fi was jumping up and down about how much she loved it and how I HAVE to go see it. So I will sometime this week.

I TOTALLY LOVED IT. I dragged my wife to it and she actually loved it as well.
we are going again this weekend. I usually agree with critics.
                  Not this time.

Look like it didn't do well at the box office. Also heard Disney spent $250 million to make....ouch.

                      Opened much more strongly overseas.

                      Total Lifetime Grosses
                      Domestic: $30,603,000 30.2%
                      + Foreign: $70,600,000 69.8%
                      = Worldwide: $101,203,000

Might be a situation similar to TinTin.

I saw it and thought we finally have the John Carter film that I always hoped they would make (within a PG context). It's actually fairly faithful to the book in many ways.

Box Office Mojo was giving Disney's marketing dept. hell for this. I have to agree they didn't do anything to make this stand out to people. The days of people being wowed by CGI creatures in commercials is long over.

You might have to create a log-in to see this, but here's a New York Times article on what happened:

‘Ishtar’ Lands on Mars - NYTimes.com

If pitch that got Disney was “Indiana Jones on Mars" why was that so absent from all the marketing of the movie?

Why the amazing visuals we remember from the books and comics were never used, I'll never know.
There have been better posters for JC. Just not stateside. This poster looks a more marketable.
When we went to see it my wife kept asking me now WHY do you think John Carter is even interesting?
Afterwards, she loved in and wanted to see it again. We saw it twice this weekend.
Sadly most of the audience was over 30 years old. Disney really did little to sell it to people sho were unfamiliar with the character.
