Gatchaman definitely more adult then Battle of the Planets...Soundtrack is different...but not sooo much that it is an entirely different story altogether...just more grittier and adult. It's like watching the Director's Cut that gives a movie a different rating.

As much as I hated 7 Zark 7 (just way too corny), I understand why they needed it.

None of the Japanese DVD sets have Subs as far as I know as of a few years ago, but i've seen lots of subbed episodes on YouTube.

Didn't the north American BotP boxed sets also include original subbed Gatchaman episodes that you could watch for side by side comparison to the north American sandy frank eps?

Essentially with much childhood love to 7 Zark 7 and 1Rover 1, what I find a little frustrating about Battle of the Planets, watching as an adult, was that every time he shows up, you know you are missing story or action sequences deemed too extreme for American kids (yet did not seem to do too much damage to Japanese kids).

What is kind of fun about the Gatchaman soundtrack is realizing that there are lyrics to the theme song. I think the G-force rerelease might have gotten rid of the original Japanese music?

I am really baffled by the G-force Guardans of Space incarnation. replacing all that wonderful dramatically evocative music with all that brass, and replacing it with such humdrum canned stuff. (not to mention the name changes and narration)

As much as I hated 7 Zark 7 (just way too corny), I understand why they needed it.

When I have gone a long spell without seeing BOP, it does take some getting use to as far as listening to 7 ZARK 7. He's a tad too passive for modern robots.

But after a few episodes, I buy back into it and fall back in love with the series. As long as this thread has gone, do you think we've made an impression on one of these action figure companies to make this line in Mego scale? I think it would be a blast!

No, If we were in Japan we'd have a chance, but we live in America outside of older adults and maybe a handful of teen Geeks. No toy company is gonna drop money to do an 8 inch line of toys for a show that's not even on television here regularly.........

That seems to be the typical trend In the past dozen years or so when it comes to new product made in Japan after the OVA stuff (where Joe/Jason was produced as a Flyz type figure) and north American DST figures.

However, Ken/Mark does appear alongside other Tatsunoko characters (like Polymar, in plush, plastic statue, action figure and Super Deformed form) so my theory is that the product licensing ties into Tasunoko Fight and Tasunoko Vs Capcom video games. Which is where most of the exposure has been focused on Mark/Ken.

The exceptions being the Jun CyGirls figure, RAH Jason/Joe, which I believe DST released in North American packaging, the Gatchafan, and Gashopan figures as well as mini figures of the team, and the little Lego figure, as well as kewpie cel straps and SD keychains off the top of my head.

Tiny/Ryu and Jinpei/Keyop tend to get ignored the most when it comes to anything bigger than a minifig.
