I've been debating getting Battlestar Galactica on Amazon for $8 shipped. I'm a big original BSG fan but never knew about the 1980 version until about 15 years ago. A friend gave me a tape with the first 6 episodes on it but I couldn't make it past the second one and couldn't bear to watch anymore or was frankly bored of it. Everyone talks about the Return of Starbuck though being pretty good and I've never seen it but I don't know about it being worth it. So the ?s is do you all think it is worth it to a BSG?

Is Battlestar Galactica 1980 worth $8?
Wanted:- 12" Robin Shoes; Mego Batcave, Mego Die-cast Batman-loose, Mattel-BSG Gold Cylon loose.Tags: None -
Just got mine today. I also ordered it from Amazon. Hard to argue against an $8.00 purchase. It's only two discs and the only episode truly worth having is the "Return of Starbuck". If you remember and like that episode, it's nice to have a nice clean and crisp version of it. No special features and nothing extra to really mention. The other episodes are tolerable at best. Cylons showing up on Halloween is a good example of what I'm talking about. High cheese factor here. -

Can't beat a price like that. There are moments in the worst episodes, too, that you kinda hope the show will get back on track, and then the super scouts show up...It's all good!Comment

If they were paying me 8 bucks to get it, maybe. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If you aren't happy in one place, chances are you won't be happy anyplace. -Ernie BanksComment

For that price, I'd get it for completion's sake..

That'd be my take on things. About half the episodes are really bad.... but you might enjoy them in a MST3K kinda way. The other half are okay; mostly near-misses 'cos they follow really REALLY well-used plots and ideas. So.... the first episodes aren't too bad, but they use the ol' "time travel" schtick in exactly the way you'd expect. The Halloween Cylon episode isn't too bad.... except it uses the ol' "human looking robot" schtick in exactly the way you'd expect. The Starbuck episode isn't bad.... but they use the ol' "maybe we CAN get along" schtick in exactly the way you'd expect.
I think most folks give the last one a pass 'cos Starbuck's in it. It's pretty silly, with the ol' "super intelligent mutant space baby" sctick used in exactly the way you'd expect....

>Cylon defeated by a microwave + meatball references + kidnapping of Wolfman Jack = isn't too bad?
It was an air conditioner.... and I didn't think the weird weakness was that bad. 'Course I'm a huge fan of 50's monster movies, so there you go. The rest of it didn't strike me as particularly heinous, just really typical.

...but since it's 30 years old you have to correct for camp.

Microwave + meatball references + kidnapping of Wolfman Jack add camp factor, carry the suck factor and multiply by 30 years old.
This sounds like algebra.Comment
