Aside from the bombastic overacting...I still wanna see this movie really bad.

But I no longer buy DVDs...so I'll wait for it on Netflix or Redbox for rent...

Madman officially released the film on region 4 dvd and on blu(region B) in Australia this
      past December.

It would then be just a matter of time for a US release

The ones you mentioned seem like they might be pressed boots made from the region 4 source or possibly the Hong Kong release (though if official would more than likely be region 3 and not region free)

However as long as the picture looks fine and the subs are ok, then that is what matters

It's not a bad movie. I saw the complete movie on Youtube before they took it down.

            Hmmmm....

I'm kinda curious. I love the original, and what I saw of the live action film looked pretty good.... although the Cosmo-Tiger-Gerwalk kinda threw me.

Just watched it. I picked up the $12.99 version from Amazon. It had problems on 2 DVD players, but ran fine on my computer. Good movie: decent story, acting & effects; true to the cartoon / source material. It's obviously not fine cinema, which is OK. It captured the essence of the cartoon, and that's what I'd been hoping for most.

As a big time fan of Starblazers and the actual yamato Films I am extremely pleased. There was minimal "modernization" of the characters, Dr Sane is a female now but unlike BSG or star trek it still looks the way you expect. Stunnig shots and a great use of the CGI on a very small budget.

Yuki is way tougher than she was in classic YAmato but well in line with females in ANIME since the 80's and the woman cast is stunning.

I like the changes to the Iscandar Gasmillas dynamic too.

and it played in my infamously touchy player which is a plus
