Latest Hunger Games Trailer

I am out of the loop concerning this Hunger Games book, but just saw another interesting post concerning this elsewhere.

What is the story? Gilligan's Island by way of Lost and Twilight?

The books have nothing to do with any of those things. It actually more like The Long Walk by Stephen King (great book) meets The Lottery by Shirley Jackson (great story) than anything else. A lot of comparison gets made to a graphic novel called Battle Royale from the 90's but that's kind of an unfair since the two really have nothing to do with one another. I highly recommend reading The Hunger Games before seeing the film. The books are not nearly as in depth as they could (should) have been and the first one will only take a few days to read through.

What demographic is this movie aimed at? I have absolutely zero interest in this. The trailer did nothing for me.

Unfortunately, teenage girls and the Twilight crowd. Good book though. I was hugely disappointed when I saw the marketing campaign for the film. Are you Teem Katniss or Team Peeta is a direct rip off of the Team Werewolf or Team Vampire Twilight thing and honestly who freakin cares? If you read the story, you already no what happens anyway. I guess the similarity they see is the stupid three way love story is exactly the same.

I had a similar problem with Watchmen a few years ago when they threw in all those 300 references.

Heard this on the radio this morning on the way to work. It sounds like there is a possibility that this movie could possibly shatter all previous open weekend records.

I've mentioned this in another thread...Every year in March, Hollywood releases a movie that will do well when up against nothing else but if released in the Summer would be here and gone in a matter of weeks. This really took off a few years ago with 300. No one really expected it to do much at first but with a March release and zero competition, the movie took off and became a huge hit. Alice In Wonderland and Watchmen were two other more recent March releases that did much better than if they came out in July. It's a great strategy especially since almost nothing but garbage comes out in January and February and the movie going population is dying for something decent to see. This years let's hope it's a hit in March is "The Hunger Games." March also marks the beginning of "children's movie season" too. This year it starts with The Lorax.

Ok...didn't realize that. I was wondering why some were questioning certain roles when they are relatively minor in the first book at least.

I'm only beginning book 2 which seems to pick up right where book 1 left off....good stuff so far.

I'm guessing they will split the third book into two movies to stretch out that buck if the first two adaptations are successful. Not sure how frustrating this will be for audiences to have to endure two cliffhanger movies, particularly given the "Empire Strikes Back" nature of the second book.

I thought the third book was the weakest link, so it is risky dragging it out into two movies.

Harrelson says he's basing the hair on his brother, Brett Harrelson.

I think it's got that Harry Potter cross generational appeal going on. While Twilight is really estrogen fueled, the romance angle is really on the back burner (at least given Katniss' POV), which does give it more of a cross gender appeal, particular with the action angle.

I seem to recall catching a glimpse of Harrelson as Haymitch in the trailer the came out with last year. I think it's a really great casting choice. It's a small part, but essential given that in many ways Haymitch has his own arc relating to his relationship with the two leads and their eventual fate... particularly as lifeline to the outside world.


Glad they haven't shown much of the Games themselves in the trailers yet. The strength in the book really is the buildup.

I really wouldn't get too hung up on Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, or Donald Sutherland. Their respective characters are very minor (in the Hunger Games at least).

I still recommend reading it prior to the movie if you intend on seeing it. The first half of the book might feel a bit slow paced, but guaranteed once the games begin; it will be difficult to put the book down....it is that good. I have a feeling if done right; this movie might break "Twilight's" record since I can see it appealing to male and female teenagers as well as adults.

The movie looks really good. I hope it stays true the novel and so far it looks like it has the look dead on. I still haven't seen Woody Harrelson as Haymitch yet. They also haven't shown a scene with Lenny Kravitz. (which is probably a good thing.)
