Said it before, will say it again the real issue with Phantom Menace is they went back to far. Think about the events alluded to in the original trilogy. That's what people were waiting for, not Darth Vader as a 10 year old. If the first prequel was "Clone Wars" the second "Revenge of the Sith" and the third about the Empire's total conquest of the galaxy I think the prequels would have been remembered differently.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who had that thought.
Anyway, I myself don't hate the prequels. But I do admit they could have been better. The only prequel I own on DVD is Revenge of the Sith as it is my favorite of the three.
I also own the 2006 DVD version of ANH with the "Bonus Disc" of the original 1977 version. I'll have to hunt down Empire and Jedi in second hand stores as I didn't expect the 2006 DVDs to be yanked from circulation when the Blu-Ray set hit.Comment

I really think it's the viewers that have changed...I know lots of my friends who hate the prequels also, but their kids loved them and don't see any difference between the six films at all.
The original trilogy was not perfect by any means...it has massive gaping plot holes and lapses in logic, terrible acting, and questionable creatures.
Some examples:
Pricess Leia's "British" accent that seems to come and go at random.
Princess Leia consoles Luke after the death of some old guy he's known for two days, while her entire planet, presumably millions of people including her entire family and everyone she's ever known just got blown up an hour beforehand.
Are you kidding me?Comment

Ok, I am a huge orginal SW fan, and I liked Episode 3. Yes, Episode 1 will suck no many how many demensions we see it in. But Episode 3 is really good if you can get by the comic bookie diolog. Epsiode 2 is very ok. I think the Star Wars prequel issue is the fact that we were all much younger when E4, E5 & E6 came out. Sorry to say, a movie is never going to be that mind blowing for us again. Watching TV with my 6 year old, seeing what he likes , really drives this point home for me. Have any of you ever sat thru the live action Cat in the Hat movie?Last edited by SexySkottie; Jan 31, '12, 6:54 PM.sigpic Ultimately, I serve only one master... pure logic!Comment
