They appear to be paying for it too. Friday numbers were unimpressive. How don't you market a film that cost $250 million? Better yet, why would you invest that much in an unproven commodity?

Looks like Disney is just as lost on how to market some things as much as other studios are! I think that fact that they just marketed it as "John Carter" hurt it as much as anything else. It doesn't have any pizzazz to it; it's just---vanilla. John Carter could be the plumber you hire to fix your toilet or the guy who works in the cubicle next to you. It doesn't CONVEY anything ABOUT the character or the movie in general, whereas had they gone with "John Carter of Mars", THAT tells you that this is not just a movie about a dude with the name John Carter...!
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

Jon Carter's a good popcorn movie and a fun 2 hours. The action and special effects are solid and the CGI characters came of really well. The lead actor is a little to laconic in the role, but I liked the princess. Like most scifi/fantasy films, you could poke holes in it if you want, but it's not worth that much thought. Just a mindless, fun action flick that would probably play best to boys from about 8 to 14.

I've been confused about this one since I saw the first time I saw a preview for it. To me it looked way too much like the Geonosis arena scene in 'Attack of the Clones".

Spot on. I took my 12 year old and he loved it.

I'll say this - it's somewhere between the first three Star Wars movies and the last three Star Wars movies.

Saw it in IMAX 3D last Thursday. Spectacular.
As a fan of the original ERB stories, I thought this was a worthy adaptation.

It would be a great shame if this movie does not do well at the BO.
