I blame Playmates for that failure. Odd choices of characters--Cadet McCoy?--and iffy likenesses kind of kept some of us old-school types away. Still, they got more of my money than they deserved. I just wish they would've released the 1/6 Scotty and Uhura before dropping the line.
I would love to see Sideshow get this license for the 1/6 scale figures. I know we've talked about it on here before, but if Joy and Tom worked on them, they would be nearly perfect. Their sculptor has chops.Leave a comment:

The Playmates Trek movie toys were received poorly, and that's why wave 2 was cancelled. Playmates contract to produce Star Trek movie toys was not renewed as of 2010, so the chance of seeing wave 2 of the first movie at this point is non-existent.I know this may maybe a little off topic, but maybe the cancelled series 2 of action figures will come out?
I suppose Playmates could get the license again for the new flick, but considering the dismal failure of the first line, what inclination would Playmates and CBS have to go down that road again?Last edited by Sideshow Spock; Jan 11, '12, 1:14 PM.Leave a comment:

RIGHT ON!!After watching Trek...again...I can't believe the magic with the cast, the comraderie and the timing. IT's like they've been working together for years. Perfect casting and successfully capturing the spirit of the original series without apeing is the key to the film's success and it's place in my heart. I'd say 98 percent of the movie was just freakin perfect. That's a ratio I'll take anytime.

How on Earth did I know that's exactly what you'd say? I hear ya. Middle Earth is an acquired taste. I couldn't stand the books, but the movies, collectively, are my all-time favorite. Go figure.

I have no doubt Abrams will be able to incorporate 3D tech with standard movie film to maximize the viewing experience no matter the format. I am a diehard fan of the first film(I'm watching it now actually) and saw some great, great things from him. A huge chink of the revenues of the film will be off DVD/BluRay, so 3D will only really benefit moviegoers as few of us have a home system to handle it.
I'm more looking forward to this one than the Hobbit, and that's a bold statement.Leave a comment:

Reading that it's going to be 3D just took a lot of the wind out of my sails for this movie. That really bums me out, because 1) I really loved Abrams' first one and 2) in my town, sometimes 3D--which I abhor--is all that's offered.Leave a comment:

Perhaps a six foot talking carrot..... oops! Sorry wrong 60's franchise.
It wouldn't be bad to see him as Trelane and tie it all together with confirming him to be a child of the Q.Leave a comment:

If it's Klingons, I think they need to be styled after the original series. Otherwise, I'd rather not see them ever again.Leave a comment:
