That movie felt like two parts to me... one part "Stand by me", second part " Cloverfield". I thought Kyle Chandler was wasted in his role. There's so much more they could have done with him. He's a great actor. As a movie I thought it held lots of promise. But the script was fairly uneven overall. The director didn't seem to know what to do with the story once the characters were established. And the idea this kid would have a reflective moment to tell a gigantic creature, "I know how you feel" when it's getting ready to eat him is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out there.Do you say, "It ain't easy being green" when a alligator is coming at you? No... You say "Sh*******T!!!!" and run for the hills. That's what this kid should have done.

It's all good brotha. I'm glad you liked it. That's just how it hit me. I thought Kyle Chandler was awesome on the TV series Friday Night Lights. Probably the only show in the past 20 years my wife and I watched religiously during it's entire run. With us having kids that age and having them in football and cheerleading, it made an immediate connection with us. When I saw the ads for this movie I was hoping he would play a bigger role. But at the end of the day, his participation wasn't a make it or break it factor for me. I guess the trailer made it sound like perhaps the monster was going to be from their imagination and not this actual creature that had been held by the government. It was playing out like a film that would have a clever twist. So when it became a monster movie half way through, it kind of disappointed me. But it's all good!Glad you liked it. Plenty of good points to it as well.

i thought it was a well made movie. my wife even really liked it and she is not a huge scifi fan. I have to pick it up on Bluray. only had enough for one movie this week and Conan won outComment

I didn't really want to think too much during this movie, I just wanted to bask in the nostalgia. I felt like I was back in the late 70s, when Spielberg was still making movies that blew me away as a kid.
I love this movie, plot and logic holes aside, it had been a long time since I just enjoyed the whole feel of a movie this much..

had to pick it up today when I sw it. just finished watching with the kids, who had fallen asleep when we went to the drivein.
to sum it up, my 10 year old said to me afterwards, this is one of his top 5 favorite movies now. I enjoyed it more the 2nd time seeing it and plan on watching it again with the wife tomorrowComment
