What made Halloween great was that there was very little gore and more suspense! Not many movies back in the day pulled that off. Friday the 13th was more comical then scary.

It's kind of tame and almost funny nowadays because of it's cheapness.

It wont scare you but it might make you chuckle

I enjoyed both franchises, but I like Friday the 13th a bit more.

Couldn't agree more. Halloween pulled it off with great directing, photography and awesome musical score. Didn't need any gore to make it not only the BEST horror movie ever made, but in my opinion, maybe even the best film ever made, period! I alternate between it and Gladiator on any given day. However, it's light years better than any of the Friday flicks. I do agree that Friday part 2 is the best of the series.

On the other hand, the cheapness of Texas Chainsaw is what made that movie for me.

The use of natural elements and general shoddiness of the props and locations made everything seem more real and immersive. If I remember correctly, Chainsaw had no or almost no soundtrack, which made everything seem more real, rather than being warned that something terrible was about to happen by the musical cues.

Whereas Friday the 13th went out of it's way to create elaborate effects and death scenes (nearly all of which were awesome!), the most disturbing part of Chainsaw was the "twitch" after the hammer scene when we first see Leatherface. No need for CGI or latex and *way* more memorable.

Michael Myers scares me so much more than Jason or his mom. There's something about the mask.
