Not as big a surprise to me as a friend of mine in the industry said he was. I was not totally convinced. Shows you what do I know.

Zachary Quinto Comes Out As Gay In New York Magazine, Talks 'Margin Call,' 'Angels In America'

The headline I saw was "Spock is gay" and with my history I exclaimed in my head "Leonard Nimoy is gay???!!!"

It's true, as a character actor he probably doesn't have much to worry about - a leading man I could see still being pressured to keep quiet.

The only current openly gay actor who had a shot of being a leading man (that I can think of) was Rupert Everett...but those leading romantic roles stopped pretty quickly, now in his early 50s...he's basically a character actor nowadays.

I wasn't nuts about Heroes - but I thought Zachary Quinto, Masi Oka, Ali Larter and Adrian Pasdar were all stand outs.

If he's a great actor, it doesn't matter which side of the fence they are swinging.

you gotta give him props though, it must've been super hard for him to come out....it's really sad but chances are that this move will probably cost him some roles..I hope not cause he's a great actor, great Spock and I loved him in Heroes

I don't think is going to cost him roles because he's not leading man material like his Trek co-star, Chris Pine (Kirk). Quinto's a solid character actor though...he will do fine...just like Neil Patrick Harris...

From what I read he just casually mentioned it in a normal interview. I think that's cool - not to hold a whole press conference and everything - but now the media is making a bigger deal about it. In my opinion it shouldn't affect him or matter - his job is to pretend to be other people. Straight people play gay characters all the time - so I don't see why it should be different the other way.

He needs to stop doing interviews and camp out in front of JJ Abrams house and get the next Star Trek film going. Definitely one of my favorite films of the last decade.
