Battlestar Galactica premiered on ABC 33 years ago

I remember being so excited to be allowed to stay up late and watch this to the end. On the East coast it was stopped in the middle by real life news. The signing of the Egypt and Israel peace accords. They then ran the rest of the 3 hours after that was finished. I think every kids in my class had watched it.

Here is the whole ABC line-up for that year.

Galactica remains my favourite TV show.

I saw the edited theatrical version of the pilot at a drive-in in Canada first, then later the extended TV version when it was broadcast.

I didn't like at first.. Nothing with the show itself, but I recall just wanting to take 'the high road' and ignore it as a Star Wars rip-off. But with enough high school friends watching it, I started watching.

Like most, I liked the latter half of the season, when it started moving away from the 'star-wars-of-the-week' show and really established it's legs, by adding secondary characters and becoming more of an ensemble show. That's where the charm really resonated with me. What a loss it didn't stick around for a second year.

I watched every once in a while. I wasn't that into the show then, but I really love it now.

Well, that solves a childhhood memory for me.

I've always remembered having to wait for the news to end before they showed the end of BSG. The wait was torture. It was midnight or later before it was over.
I just couldn't remember why they had stopped it to show the news.
                Better late than never.....

They must have reran the pilot during Thanksgiving in Canada because I remember being able to stay up and watch it. That wouldn't have happened on a regular school night.

I wasn't a big fan as a kid, I don't know why it didn't really appeal to me but I could never sit through it. I had all the action figures too but rarely if ever, watched the show for more than ten minutes.

Oddly, I never missed "Galactica 1980".

Gave the show another look when key episodes got VHS release in the late eighties and the local shop had them as $0.99 rentals.

It was a great time to be a kid when Battlestar Galactica came out. Everything was space and electronics. You had the futuristic keyboards on the radio and anything seemed possible if you could dream it. Good times indeed.
