Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD

I didn't want to add this to any other thread and get buried...

In light of Lucas not giving fans the Original Trilogy as it was originally presented in theaters....a group of people are pretty darn close.

Now, there is tons of mumbo jumbo about footage, tweaks, soundtracks...what-have-you....but in a nutshell:

there now exists the Original Star Wars Trilogy in NEAR theatrical release, get this - IN FREAKING HD.

They have undone 90%-96% of Uncle George's CGI add-ons...remastered colors and backgrounds....

That is all I am going to say because I don't even fully understand it...but you can read all about it here:

    http://http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Harmys-STAR-WARS-Despecialized-Edition-HD-AVCHD-DVD9-and-NTSC-DVD5-AVAILABLE-see-1st-post/topic/12713/

It took me a gooooood long while to actually FIND the three films to download...and it took a good while to get em.

They are intended to be burnt to BluRay media.

I have those files parked...waiting for the day...
However, I ran the files thru Handbrake so I can dump em into my iTunes library and stream to my AppleTV and HD Tv.

    They look amazing.
I have yet to watch them all...or even one all the way thru...but wow.
It is SO nice to have such a near theatrical release in such a clean HD format...

I have laserdisc rips of those many moons ago....that are devoid of the Special Edition crap...but on quality levels, they don't even compare.

Look at these comparison pics too...stuff I never realized Lucas changed...is now restored in its theatrical glory.

Wow, I just spent a good half hour going through those pics -- can't believe how much was changed.

Whenever I used to watch the special editions I'd sort of "mentally edit" them as I went along, trying to imagine them in their original forms. But even little things like color and the timing of musical cues are different. No wonder it never feels quite the same.

If anyone has the know how to stick these on blu ray, I'd pay (a reasonable price) for it!

If they call it "a new hope", that was never in the first theatrical version. It was just "Star Wars". I think that a new hope was added for the second theatrical release.

You know, many SW fans think Lucas put the original films ( sourced from the out of date laserdisc transfers which ticked fans off as soon as they heard) just to make the bootlegs of those same transfers on DVD obsolete.

If a bootleg original version trilogy reconstruction starts to circulate around in HD, it may make him eventially release them to quash those HD versions.

Nope, just Star Wars in all it’s glory. Here are the first 5 minutes in HD 720p.

Agreed. This Harmy version only says star wars.
I (sadly as I work in IT) don't know anyone local who has bought a bluray burner.
I don't have the cash right now to splurge myself...
