It's like the Beatles disbanding...
I remember buying the Red/Blue albums, and magazines.., only, what, 3 years after 'Let It Be'..??
THOSE were the days.., of buying Blish paperbacks for 40 cents (ah, still about the same value on eBay, incidentally..), then the first 'Poster Book', the first ish of Starlog, brand new AMT models in the toy aisles, viewmasters.
THOSE were the days when it was tough bein' a geek. But the payoff was so sweet.., with the ST movie franchise, Next Gen, 'Trekkies' movie, you name it.

I was TOO into it.., still am.
Thinking about those AMT models, I do recall buying my 2nd Galileo and Eagle model kits, having 'got game' on precisely how to paint them (after my initial less-successful efforts..). They came out pretty darn good, using 'flat paints' for nearly everything..Last edited by david_b; Sep 8, '11, 1:08 PM.Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

I was 2 months old to the day when Star Trek came out. I loved it in syndication on Sunday evenings back to back w/ Space 1999 (my dad watched that one, I didn't). I really loved it when local stations would schedule an all day marathon. That was like a major event to me! But it was funny...if I hadn't watched it in awhile, then tuned back in, "The Menagerie" would always be playing."Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."Comment

And silly me, I just merrily watched and loved both shows without contesting them against each other.
Channel 10 ran a Saturday dinner time line up of Star Trek, Space:1999 and In Search Of.Comment

When I first saw it as a kid I didn't even know I was watching re-runs of a show that first aired before I was born. I thought it was new.You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...Comment

This makes me feel so old. But i loved watching with my brother in '75 at my parents house here in CT, while he was recuperating from a broken leg and shoulder in a snowmoblie race in maine. after school it would come on about 4pm on channel 8 and it was cool to share that with him. we would sing along to the commercials advertising the great italian singers and polka favorites."Hang on Lady... We go for a RIDE!" - Shorty to Willie Scott.Best movie line from Indiana Jones & the Temple Of DoomComment
