I actually don't hate the Ewoks, and I think some of those scenes are actually pretty good. I do think that some of the Ewok stuff is pandering and goes too far, but I don't think the idea was terrible and could have worked well if it was just a tad more serious.

The main problem with "Jedi" for me is the pacing of the film in the last third of the movie.

Every time we cut back to The Emperor and Luke it feels like we're watching the same scene over and over and it drags all the excitement out of the film for me.

Vader: "The Emperor has been expecting you"

The Emperor: "I have been expecting you."

"Join the Dark Side" - "Never" - "Yes" - "No" - "Yes" - "No" on and on...

There's nothing new driving the Luke/Vader/Emperor scenes until they reveal that Leah's Luke's sister, but we already know that. the audience is too far ahead of the characters to make things interesting at that point.

The story of the space battle story isn't terrible, but it doesn't have the snappy pacing or excitement of the ending of Star Wars. The overall story arc on Endor just isn't as exciting as it could have been and is (again) poorly affected by cross-cutting with the repetitive Emperor scenes.

Another major problem for the film is that it totally lacks any big scenes for Han. In the other films that character was constantly driving the action forward, but in "Jedi" he's a bit of a washout.

The Boba Fett v. Han showdown doesn't happen, then we get almost no time with Han in the Flacon, and he seems like a tag-along in the Endor scenes. It's like they forgot he was in the film half the time. It's a let down.

    For all you Ewok haters...

    Ewoks are vicious.

They were planning on EATING Han, Luke and the guys. EATING THEM.

They were going to cook them and EAT them.

And at the end... the drummer Ewok banging on the imperial helmets...

How much do you want to bet the heads were still IN the helmets?

AFTER HE AND HIS FAMILY ATE THE REST OF THE BODIES!

Ewoks are like furry forest piranhas!

The Ewoks didn't need the Rebels' help in ridding themselves of the imperial forces on their moon. The Rebels needed THEIR help. The Ewoks were like the Vietcong. Without the Rebels being there, they would have slowly picked off stormtroopers one by one and ATE THEM.

    1. Star Wars-My favorite movie all-time!
    2. Empire Strikes Back
    3. Return of the Jedi
    4. Revenge Of The Sith-Way better than it gets credit for. This was worthy addition to the franchise.
    5. The Clone Wars-A decent movie that gets crapped on because it wasn't good enough to erase the memories of Phantom Menace.
    6. The Phantom Menace

Note note about the prequels. They would have been much better received if the necessary material from Phantom Menace was consolidated into "Clones" and that was "Episode 1". "Sith" could have been "Episode Two" and third movie could have been fit in with Vader/Emperor hunting down the the Jedi, and establishing the Empire.

You have to check out the Grind House version of Star Wars. It's amazing.

    1. Empire
    2. Jedi
    3. Revenge of the Sith
    4. A New Hope
    then the other two...blah.

The other aspect of the new CGI laden Star Wars prequels versus the old school special effects Star Wars movies is back in the day it was truly so hard to make the special effects that they were really, really, really well thought out and planned. Now I don’t care one bit about CGI because as much as an effort one puts into details, it all seems like a sloppy afterthought.

Yoda as physical puppet was more “real” than any CGI character.

I've always liked Lando as a character, so I enjoyed him on the Falcon in ROTJ. To me the movie had a satisfying ending, etc., so I overlook the cute stuff. SO I guess that would be my number one pick. Going ROTJ, ESB, SW, then any of the prequels after that. I am stating my opinion and not dissing on anyone who Likes them, but for some reason those three movies do not resonate with me the way the 77-83 series of movies did.

One bookend is a solid piece of rock and the other is a Teddy bear.

One of the reasons I don't hold Empire as high as everyone else is because it's not a great stand-alone movie ... It's basically a connector adventure in between 2 big bookends

    Like Search For Spock
