Pirates IV crosses the billion dollar mark worldwide

Amazing how much the US is out of sync with the rest of the world with Pirates. While $233 million is impressive enough. It only accounts for a MERE 23% of the total gross worldwide. I myself enjoyed the flick better than the last two, so I was glad to see it do so well. Here are the numbers below...

Pirates just passed the Dark Knight as well. Very impressive for a fourth film in a series. Can you say "Pirates 5"?

I have that same trouble, KennerMike. Whenever I sit down to attempt to watch POTC: COTBP, it's like an instant tranquilizer. Guess I'm just not much of a fan of pirate movies....
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I can, but I wish Disney wouldn't. They should really pay close attention to how frequently Paramount milked their cash cow (TREK) before it went dry and got an udder infection....

A film every year or so is quite different than three simultaneous tv series in addition to the film every couple of years. And with the success of the reboot movie, it's not like the Trek franchise has been anywhere less profitable than a half decade since Enterprise tanked. Add to that the fact that this is the only big success in the pirate revival, versus the starship genre which has been mined for four decades nonstop.

The success of pirates simply does show that action movies probably transports best around the world... Particularly in a fairly universal and time tested genre like pirates. And this one did have a relatively straight forward plot compared to the previous entries.

They're OK, but the producers are milking it to death. No desire to see another one...
