I don't hate the show ... on the contrary.

But, it is fun to pick on it (while enjoying it)

I've been picking on Who since the Davison years

    Great news it's been renewed.

Hope we never see another 1989-2004 again.

I admint I am critical of the new show but I was critical of the Mccoy years and almost all the Colin Baker stories. the new show has it's moments but I find they have dwindled since the annoucement Tennat was stepping down. I found seasons 1-4 enjoyable (excluding the modern cybermen that now seem to have evolved from alt earth tech to classic series ultra high tech i assume by stealing dalek tech???) and the DEX EX MACHINA to bring the daleks back each time they killed them off.

I like Matt smith I hope he gets more scripts worthy of him but Moffat needs someone to tell him "lets try again shall we" which I now assume RTD must have done frequently for his scripts to be so good when he wasn't producer.

people can't see their own flaws which is why you get someone else to proof read. When the scriptwriter is the one making all the decuisions it seldom works well (see James Cameron after terminator and Lucas after the original SW trilogy)

One of my biggest criticisms of the entire new series is the format itself.

The classic series was basically a mystery movie ... In a round about way Dr Who was Columbo in space ... Think about it --- For how much he spoke we actually knew very little about Columbo --- always underestimated but very smart - almost in the genius catagory.

Today, that formula takes a backseat to action, crazy mixed up plots and mostly stories about the Doctor or his companions.

The Doctor is suppose to be the detective of the story ... not the subject.

Allthough 14 new episodes have been commissioned they will not be shown until 2013.

2012 will only have 4 one hour specials.

              Cool!

As long as I get weird monsters I'm happy. 'Specially iof they bring back the Ice Warriors, Fendehal, Wirrin and/or the weird eye monster Alpha Centaurans.

And if they need to recast the Doctor:

"I'm a Small Child Now. Small Children Are Cool." - Topless Robot

....although I'd still love to see Rowan Atkinson in the part. Or Brian Blessed. Either way....

I don't really get the long breaks in the show. No real point IMO and it definitely cripples the fan base in the states.

No surprise that it got renewed though. I don't think it's in any trouble, even if Moffat has largely screwed the pooch this season. The nice thing about Who is that a new actor can come along, as well as a new head writer and it can make me forget all the bad stuff because the show becomes like new again.

When they eventually get around to casting the next Doctor, they should definitely go with an older actor again.
Bill Nighy would be cool in the role... he could pull off a cranky, serious, intimidating, often bad tempered Doctor.
The character of the Doctor would benefit from having that side of his personality highlighted again.

It was always my hope that they might one day cast Christopher Lee as the Doctor. But I guess that'll never happen, as he's most likely too old now to commit to such an arduous, ongoing role.

It was mentioned by the BBC Controller the other day. It sounds like they'll be a handful of episodes next year, followed by more in 2013. I think they're intention is to split the next season over two years. They mentioned doing something big for 50th Anniversary as well.

There is also a rumour that Moffat and Smith will leave once the 50th anniversary is out the way, although I'm hoping that's not the case.

                            Yep, I totally agree.
I'm used to Smith now, I think he's honing his acting skills quite nicely, getting it just right now. Moffat is suffering from "King of the Hill" syndrome. He's a talented writer, but has trouble keeping himself in check.
I rewatched the last episode, and liked it better. I only wish they had fleshed out the Battle of Demon's Run to something more worthy of the name.

I also agree with Mike: a little less running around and explosions and action, and a little more attention to plausible scripts (without the huge story arcs), and we'll be moving in the right direction.

Lee is 89 now, and in poor health. Would have been an exceptional choice for the Doctor. But I'd love to see an older actor in the role again. For now, I'm happy with Smith, so let's keep him around for a couple of years, shall we?
