One thing that always makes me laugh when I watch the old Flash Gordon and Buck serials ....
The sound of the ships when flying
Hahahahah me too I use to have an old steel fan that made the same noise.....so when i had my mego Flash I would turn it on to make the sound of the ship Flying through the air......
There used to be an old show on PBS years ago. "Matinee at the Bijou" Me and Dad used to watch it everyday after I got home from trade school. I was like going to the movies back in the 30-40's. They'd show cartoons, newsreels, Shorts and serials.

Yeah i loved that show I watched it all the time was really was fun to watch....
I've recently watched these for the first time in years and they are great. Superior to most other serials I've seen. Crabbe is the perfect Flash Gordon.
TCM was running the Buck Rogers serials last weekend. Ahead of their time for sure. They had transporters like Star Trek and the opening credits scrolled at an angle into infinity like Star Wars. I'm starting to think nothing modern was an original idea. It was pretty cool to watch!

I love serials! I have Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, and I think I have Space Soldiers too. I think Ming looks very cool in Space Soldiers, but Max Von Sydow is my favorite Ming.
One of my favorite serials is called "Haunted Harbor" which was renamed "Pirates Harbor" later, I believe. One of the things I love about it is that whenever there's a scuffle, the hero's girlfriend always manages to be slightly 'bumped' and is knocked out almost every time. Then as soon as the fight ends, she magically regains consciousness. It's cheesy-good!
I'm kicking myself for not getting a GoHero Buster Crabbe figure when they were available. I think they're next to impossible to find now, and they're pretty awesome looking. I didn't think much about it until I recently rewatched "Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe" and was reminded how cool he was.
Sam Jones is much easier to watch if you haven't seen Crabbe first.
If you have seen Crabbe first, Jones comes off as one of the worst actors ever.
Sam Jones is so bad, you don't even believe he could be a lunk of a meathead quarterback, and he really WAS a lunk of a meathead quarterback!! But I saw the 1980 Flash Gordon at just that right time in my childhood that it's forever burned into my childhhod loves!

They never came out. Looks like Cast-a-Way is helping that process now, though.
