    Total Recall , ... Remake... Recalled ?

    Yeah So ...,

I was reading Entertainment Weekly, ... and I guess Total Recall Is getting a Remake that starts shooting this Month.

    I'm sorta Confused Here...
I don't really understand why a Remake Staring Colin Ferral is Even needed.

The Origional Had Arnie , Micheal Ironside and a very Hot Sharron Stone. I am not certain what was wrong with it ..., I sorta think The Remake should just be called something Else.

I try not to Judge a Flick before I even see it ...., but the confusion level of this is high enough for me to warrent starting a Thread.

I like Ferral ...., I just dunno if there is 1 single part, That I can think of in a Movie that I like.

His interviews are some of the best ...., He seems to not understand how to conduct them without swearing.

Why remake this type of movie is beyond me. The original had an ok B Movie vibe to it, leave it alone.

I'm not saying this excuses the remake or anything, but the original movie was based on a Philip K. Dick novel and deviated heavily from the original source. I haven't read it, so I don't know for sure, but I remember an interview with David Cronenberg talking about how he almost made "Total Recall" at one point, and when that fell through (or whatever happened) he was surprised when Schwarzenegger was cast, since the character in the book was suppose to be a nerdy everyman type dude - for example.

Philip K. Dick has a lot of fans, and for some reason his movie adaptations always deviate heavily from the source material. There's also been talk for a few years about doing a more faithful adaptation of "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep" - which is what "Blade Runner" was based on.

100% agree except for one movie - check out "In Bruges" if you can. It's awesome!

Yikes....if it is a book remake the first thing that comes to mind is Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory vs. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I love Tim Burton's movies and Johnny Depp and did like the remake but no comparison to the original (in my opinion).

Total Recall has special meaning to me. I took my wife (girlfriend at the time) to see it even though she hates Sci-Fi and is more into the romatic comedies (i.e. Chick Flicks) but she sat through it and enjoyed it.

This was the movie which enabled me to express my affection to sci-fi and not have my date run out the theater wondering why I didn't pick "When Harry Met Sally" or whatever movie was playing at the time that would have been more appealing to the ladies.

The original PKD story "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale" which Total Recall was based on is very short.
I remember being surprised by that when I first read it... I was expecting something about the length of "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep."
                But it's a great story.

I guess the brevity of the work leaves room for a screenwriter to add a lot to the story as they see fit, for better or worse, as long as they retain the core premise of the source material (which is pretty much what happened with Total Recall, more or less).

Starts shooting in Toronto in 2 days.

In the remake Bryan Cranston is playing the bad guy. (weird)

Kate Beckinsale is the wife. (yawn)

The dude who wrote "Salt" is writing it. (blech)

Directed by Len Wiseman who did "Underworld 1 & 2" and "Live Free Die Hard" (which I actually loved.

Produced by Neal H. Moritz. We're going to be complaining about this guys movies for several more years - by the looks of it. He's done a lot of useless sequels, remakes and comic adaptations people complained about and he's got a lot more lined up: Luke Cage, xXx Sequel, Battle Royale, Preacher, Flash Gordon, Goosebumps, Doc Savage, Sinbad, Escape From New York, To Catch a Thief, Cliffhanger (I can't tell if this is a remake or sequel or another thing all together.)

Seems like the 'going to Mars' part of the plot is out too:

After Arnold pulling a pingpong ball out of his nose, eyeballs inflating like balloons, and a girl with three boobs - how can they top the original!

Oh she's lovely to look at!

but Sharon Stone...I remember seeing the original and thinking "who is SHE?!!" The crazy mix of sweetness and red hot evil - it's going to be a tough act to follow.

I very much doubt they will be able to come close to Verhoeven's perverse sense of humor, of Rob Bottin's amazingly inventive fx work.
