finally saw Clash of the Titans 2010

Finally saw it tonight. It's not bad and I actually liked it more than I thought I would. Even with all the changes I really only had a few issues with it.

The biggest thing for me was Persus looked and acted too modern. There were wigs and weaves all over the place and Persus with his marine corp buzzcut stuck out like a sore thumb. The character also suffered from the modern "Grrr!! I'm so angry!!! I'm so angry!!!" overly intense stereotype. He looked and acted like a pro wrestler. Just did not really mesh with the period look and personalities of the other characters.

Bubo's cameo seemed more mocking than homage. The Kraken's wide mouth roar. Ever since the new Mummy movies they seem to think every CGI monster has to have this really exaggerated stretched out jaw roar. Kinda tired of that.

All in and all, though, it was a fun and exciting movie. Not a great movie but not a bad one either.

It will never stand up to the original but all in all it was not bad. I will say that I really dug what they did with Charon the Ferryman.

It was OK, nothing more.
I disliked the choice of the main actor: as said above, way too modern, both in looks and behavior. Isn't he Australian?
I've nothing but love for our Aussies, but it didn't work in Ancient Greece, IMO, especially with the accent.

The original was so perfect I have no interest in seeing any remakes of it.

Same with Jason and the Argonauts

I disliked the choice of the main actor...

He was in a buttload of movies that came out about the same time, and it just struck me that either 1) he had an awesome agent able to BS everyone into thinking he was the next big thing or 2) they just said, "Let's go with that dude--he's cheaper than Russell Crowe." His acting style is similar to that of set dressing, like a heavily muscled lamp or ottoman.

I liked it.....not loved it, but liked it. I have it on Bluray. still like the orignal more, cheesy effects and all. Agree that Sam Worthington was not right for the role but he did good enough for what it was. the Kraken in the remake was based on the Rancor from Return of the Jedi...or at least the head was.

It was okay. I can't say it was better than the original but it was worth a try. I don't think it was worth seeing in 3D though.

Talk about a remake that could have just not gotten made. Whew. Two hours of my life that I'll never get back.

The original had its shortcomings, agreed.
The Gods themselves didn't look all that Mighty, Harry Hamlin less than impressive, and Bubo was just not funny, but at least the style of filmmaking said "Ancient Greece".

In this new version, the style was, as is customary these days, "bigger is better". They drown you in CG, and place little or no emphasis on style, acting, accuracy, or a decent script.
If the audience is "blown away", that's main thing.

Both the original and the remake are ok...they both suffer from laughable gods...lol.

Give me both Jason & the Argonauts and The Golden Voyage of Sinbad over those other two any day...
