I love Land of the Giants, but the show has one big drawback ... Basically every episode is the same ........

A couple of the Earthlings are foraging for food or supplies

Bad Giant catches them so they can turn them in and get a reward

Remaining Earthlings befriend Good Giant

Good Giant helps Earthlings rescue captured Earthlings

Repeat over and over and over and over

I had never heard of this until now, sounds cool. I remember watching Land of the Giants and really being fascinated and a little scared. I also had a LOTG metal lunch box that probably came from one of my brothers or sisters. I used to keep my Star Wars and Mego figures in it when I would go out to play. (no WONDER my Jawa and Hulk always smelled like tuna with onions and soured milk...meh...)

Actually, Mikey, that was my biggest drawback from buying the expensive DVD set. I would like to grab the single disks they released years ago just to have the first episode. I did download it from iTunes, so it's on my iPod..

This was my big gripe about most sci-fi shows back then (Logan's Run, SMDM, POTA, etc..)...: All the hoopla was spent on the opening show, that the rest of the series is typically the same plots, no space footage, etc.., all done on typical sets, each week, etc. Yes, there were some exceptions, but typically all the cool excitement was gone after the first show.

That being said, I enjoy that LOTG had more exciting cast action.., where you actually had 'em in physical fight scenes against each other, adding much needed tension among the group themselves. That put it a few steps higher than the other Allen offerings for me.

I got bored with all the giant scenes, especially when it got soap-operaish or downright silly. But it's the intensity of the acting from Matheson, Conway and Marshall that made it cool to watch. Obviously having it run a few years later than the earlier series allowed more grittiness than the other shows, and no walking Crabmen either..
