Voyage to the bottom of the sea

I just finished my Twilight Zone and Invaders DVD collection, and I'm now moving on to another favorite of mine, Voyage To TBOTS.

I can remember sitting under the kitchen table, age five, and watching it on TV. I hope it's still as much fun as it was back then, 'cause I haven't seen an episode in about 40 years...
I remember one with a lobster man, I wonder which season that was in?

Do any of you have the series on DVD?
I recall reading about some buyers complaining about discs skipping and such.
They start releasing full seasons next month, so I might wait until then before buying...

    Very cool series !!!

My 3rd favorite 60's Sci Fi show after Lost In Space and Star Trek.

I own about 3/4's of the series at this point (plan on getting them all someday).

Biggest problem with the current DVD's is they're double sided... Many have 2 episodes per side (which is really a waste of space for nothing)... (the Time Tunnel was released like this too)

Just remember, the show progresses into weirdness as the seasons go by, so don't expect many Lobstermen type episodes in season-1.

Season-2 is when the show went to color, picked up the Flying Sub and added cast member Cheif Sharkey.

Season-4 was made on a shoestring budget and features a lot of ship board stories with only a few crew members in each story (to save money).

    A great show !!!

(A young Kirk Douglas, Nemo, the Squid, etc...same deal, or?)

I think you're referring to 20,000 Leagues under the sea, another great submarine epic!

Oh yeah! I love this show! When the Sci-Fi Channel aired it, I recorded most of the eps. The pilot (in color) was great. And although I liked the first season, it was more about the spy stuff adn less about the creatures and aliens which is what I really like. I even brought an ep (I think it was The Amphibian) to school when I was teaching after school, and the kids loved it! Best of all, I got to tell this to Captain Crane himself, David Hedison. He was very sweet. One little boy I used to babysit loved to play w/ my GIJoes in scuba suits on and play VTTBOTS.

Whoa, whoa, whoa -- there's a story there I'd like to hear! Please fill in the details on that one!

Ok, I was at Wondercon, walking celebrity row, and saw David at his table. I pulled out my camera to take a picture, and his assistant told me I'd have to pay to take the snap. David tells her "It's alright, she can take a picture if she wants to." So I did, and told him I love VTTBOTS and that my class even likes the show, and he thought that was very nice.

              OK, that's the story!

I used to work in the Upper West Side in Manhattan and met him but didn't realize it was him. I was working at a cash register in a stationary store. He caught the tail end of a conversation my co-worker and I we having and he teased me a bit as he made his purchase. I recognized his voice but he had a grey beard and a hat on. We didn't put it together that it was him until minutes after he left. I would have liked to tease him back a little. He was very nice and just looking to make us laugh.

Voyage was always a favorite of my growing up and I've recently started watching them again. Still good after all these years.

                        FRICKEN'-A..!!!!
                        You couldn't be more right..

I wonder if that's where Doctor Who got the Zygons from..??

When I was over in Kuwait this last year, all they had on DVD was the first year, so I watched one/two eps of that. Great Cold War stuff, but it seemed a bit dry. Chief Sharkey was a great, colorful addition..

Yeah, it did get a bit "LIS" in the last few seasons, but it was still campy fun. I thought the evil puppets episode were a BIT too much (actually, how many of those eps did they actually do..?), but.., what can you expect..?

I'd like to hear some of those stunt men in those outfits talking, especially about donning the same costume this week for 'Voyage', next week for LIS, etc.. They mentioned that in the "Worlds of Irwin Allen" DVD.., very entertaining.

                        The Flying Sub kicked ***.
                        Peace.. Through Superior Firepower.

Just watched the one with the giant whale tonight (season-1 B&W)

I'm surprised how good the special effects were in making the whale.

voyage to the bottom of the sea is pure fun,i love that show and have all four seasons, yeah ,sure you can leave your brain at home when you watch it,their always searching the sub for some cool creature, that always ends up trashing the reactor and circuirty rooms, and the seaview crew are as bad a shot as a stormtrooper from star wars.but it was fun and also pure adventure,as was land of the giants ,the time tunnel and lost in space,i have them all on dvd.
