Unlike todays generation of filmmakers where they constantly insult the audience by hand holding them to tell the origins of characters that have existed for decades.
Dozier and company didn't, both Batman and the Green Hornet were already successful in other medias. The Green Hornet had his own radio show, film serials, comic books and Batman you know.
It would be nice to create a buzz and allow new audiences to DISCOVER and SEEK out the characters on their own instead of always spoon feeding them everything.......Last edited by kingdom warrior; Jan 31, '11, 2:17 PM.Comment

They both originated as radio shows, and it was revealed on a program that the Lone Ranger was sur-named "Reid" as well. The crossover character on both series being Dan Reid, the Lone Ranger's nephew, who was the Green Hornet's Father.
The Green Hornet is The Lone Ranger's Great-Nephew.Comment

Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

My dad remembered this and told me about the Ranger/Hornet connection when I was a kid. This included the part about the Reid silver mine (co-owned by Dan. Sr. and John Reid, and then passed to Dan Jr. to start the Daily Sentinel). When I bought NOW Comics Green Hornet #1, my old man became a lot cooler when I saw that portrait of "the masked man" over the Reid's family fireplace!!!

Did we ever need an 'origin' story to enjoy Batman on TV..?
All new viewers unfamiliar with Batman figured things out on their own, or didn't really care.. They just enjoyed the story!

I always enjoyed how the Now series tried their best to tie together all the different threads from the Radio and TV series (by considering them two separate generations of namesake Britts). I'm trying to remember, but I believe that this series actually starred a new third generation Green Hornet that took over from Britt Reid II with the female Kato (daughter of 30's Kato, and sister of 60's Kato)? She eventually became the Crimson Wasp when her brother returned to the role of Kato (at the request of the owners of the Green Hornet property at the time).
There was even a painting hanging in Britt's house or office of a full masked Lone Ranger as their ancestor that was never refered to by name.
Haven't read the Dynamite series yet to see if they gave a nod to the Now series (since they also have a female Kato).
I also got a real kick out of Green Hornet Dark Tomorrow which had two cousins battling as GL and Kato after the Reid and Kato families inter-married.
